Okpo Club Of Nigeria Condemns Wali's Kidnap Calls For His Release

An Organisation of Ikwerre lawyers, Okpo Club of Nigeria has condemned the kidnapped of a former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Rivers State, Barrister Okey Wali SAN.

The Chairman of the Association Barrister Clifford Oparaodu who expressed sadness over the kidnapped said the association is worried because,this is the second time the unpleasant incident is happening to a gentleman who believes in the rule of law.

Oparaodu, a former mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, commended the efforts of the security agencies in securing the state and nation and the fight against crime, saying that more efforts should be put in place to ensure the release of their colleagues and brother, Barrister Wali ,arrest and bring to justice those behind the criminal act.

The legal luminary who is currently serving as a commissioner in the judicial Commission, also pleaded to the abductors of Barrister Wali to unconditionally release him.

He described Wali as a gentleman, a firm believer of the rule of law who had served the state and nation as commissioner and president of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA).

According to him, whatever may be the reason for his kidnap, we do not know, but we want him release unconditionally to his families,friends and colleagues".
 
" We as an organisation of Ikwerre lawyers, Okpo Club of Nigeria worldwide are not happy. We feel sad and worried over the kidnapped. This is the second time he was kidnapped and would want the security agencies to do everything within their powers to secure his release so that he will reunite with his family, friends and colleagues", he said.

It would be recalled that Wali a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), was said to be abducted on Tuesday 18th April,2023.

According to a statement by the association of lawyers said the 64-year-old Senior Advocate of Nigeria was kidnapped along East-West Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State in the early hours of Tuesday.
