Disturbed by the shocking discovery of a new born baby abandoned in a refuse dump in Mile 3, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Rivers State Chapter, paid a visit to the Port Harcourt Children's Home, where the baby was reported to have been sent.
This visit, according to NAWOJ, is to identify with the child, express her concern over the baby's well-being, support and assure the caregivers of her commitment towards the upbringing of the child.
You will recall that in the early hours of yesterday, members of a vigilante group rescued a new born female child believed to be less than six hours old.
The baby who was wrapped with clothes and abandoned to die, was still carrying her placenta when she was discovered.
The chairperson of NAWOJ, Susan Serekara-Nwikhana, who led members of the Association on the visit condemned the act in its entirety.
In an interview with Newsmen, she described the abandonment of the child as inhumane, barbaric and cruel.
Serekara-Nwikhana who further urged members of the public to support the motherless children, appreciated the efforts of the vigilante, the human activist, Prince Wiro and the police for their quick intervention.
On the current health condition of the child, she said, "information reaching us is that the baby is fine, in good hands and responding to treatment. We are very grateful to God for that.
The women wing of the pen profession also presented some items during their visit.
