Bloody Month End: Six killed in Two Communities In Rivers State

Gunmen suspected to be cultists have killed six persons in two communities in Rivers State between Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st May, 2023.


One person in Abarikpo community, Ahoada East Local Government Area and five persons in Odiereke-Ubie community Ahoada West Local Government Areas were reported dead.

In an interview with our Correspondent,  Public Relations Officer of Akoh Youth Congress in Akoh kingdom, Ahoada East, Comrade Ekeakita Hector Chinem said the killing in Abarikpo community occurred at about five minutes past four in the morning. He said some group of cult boys residing at a neighbouring community, came to Abarikpo to search for about three persons .

According to the Public Relations Officer, 
"Unluckily, one Aburi Dickson Edi was found in his house sleeping .They (the cult boys) batched into his house,shot him in his stomach"'.

Comrade Chinem also stated that five youths were killed on Tuesday in Odiereke Ubie community, Ahoada West LGA. He said the reason for the killing was because the community refused to pay the sum of One Million naira to the hoodlums living inside the bush.

"This community don't have money,non of their elite is available at home,the people at home does not have money. When this five Youth returned from farm harvesting, they meet their sudden death.They  came with three bikes,killed them and left" he said.

Comrade Chinem described as mischievous statement credited to some Chiefs in Ekpeye ethnic Nationality that there is no insecurity in the area.

He said the Chiefs are saying so just to gain favour from the Public while their followers are been killed on weekly basis.

The Akoh kingdom Spokesperson has called the attention of Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka to make himself visible in the communities by ensuring the culprits are brought to book.

According to Mr.Chinem, the hideout of the hoodlums is known and he does not know why the security agencies are pampering the hoodlums.

When contacted the Spokesperson Rivers State Police Public Relations ,SP Grace Iringe-Koko who confirmed the incident, said five persons were killed by suspected cultists in Odiereke Ubie community Ahoada West while gathering Palm front .




SP Iringe-Koko said the natives were killed over refusal of the community to pay 1.5million naira to the suspected cultists.

She also confirmed the killing at Abarikpo community.
