Rivers State Police command says it has arrested a suspected Vikings cult Kingpin known as Kenneth Mkpe at Bomu community in Tai LGA .
The Commissioner of Police, CP Emeka Nwonyi in a press briefing on Monday 19th June, 2023 said operatives of the command on 17th June, 2023 stormed the hideout of the suspected cult member and arrested him.
CP Nwonyi said an English pistol was recovered from the suspected cultist and upon interrogation,he confessed that he bought the pistol from a Philippine working at fertilizer company in the State.
He also revealed that operatives of the command while on patrol at Rupokwu market stopped a Toyota Corolla ash colour car. After carrying out search on one Loveday Friday, Amesi,Chibuzor Kingsley all residents of Igwuruta, recovered live cartridges, two masks, two expanded cartridges from them.
The Rivers Police Boss disclosed that personnel of the Rapid Response Team, RRT of the command on 17th June, 2023 recovered one locally made pistol from Maduabuchi Ali along station road.
CP Emeka further stated that on 18th June, 2023 operatives of Special Area Division received report from one Nwankwo Jude of how he saw a stranger driving his Toyota Jeep car at about One in the afternoon.
According to the Police Boss, the man raised alarm and one Enobong was arrested by the operatives of the command.
The Rivers State Police boss also stated that Police operatives received a distress call at Obiwali road on 17th June, 2023 of three young men brought in a Toyota car stained with blood. The hoodlums escaped on noticing the Police has arrived abandoning the car.
On 18 June 2023 at about Nine in the morning, personnel of C41 intelligence unit arrested one Osinachi Mbakwe, and upon interrogation, he confessed to be a member of four man armed
robbery gang terrorizing Port Harcourt.
Meanwhile contrary to reports making round that men of SARS have resumed operation in Rivers State, CP Emeka stated that it is not true. He said SARS remains disbanded in Rivers State as directed by Inspector General of Police.
CP Emeka however added that he has directed CP Monitoring unit to monitor activities of Police officers in the command and any one found wanting will be dealt with in accordance with the extant law of the Nigeria Police.
