As part of measures to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government on the people of Andoni,  Chairman of Council Chief  Erastus Awortu has rolled out Vehicles as palliatives to subsidize high cost of transportation in the area.

This comes on the heels of the Flag-off of free transport scheme by the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the people of the State.

The Andoni Council Chairman at the Flag-off of the Public Transport Scheme at the Council Headquarters, Ngo, said the intervention was borne out of the need to lessen the hardship on the people of Andoni occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal.

He noted that the removal of fuel subsidy was a necessary action taken by the Federal Government which has long term benefits on Nigeria's economy.

                       The Buses

According to the Andoni Council Chairman"This brief ceremony shows that the Government and the Party at the local  government level identify with the plight of our people especially the hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy"

"It is a necessary action that was taken by the Federal Government and we believe that in due course we will begin to see the benefits".

"But, because of the attendant hardship of the decision of the Federal Government on our people, the Local Government and Party at this level decided to rise to the occasion to see how we can assist".

"There is nothing we will do that will be enough but it is worst if we do not to do anything, and so we decided to reduce the pain on our people, Government is there to protect the people, and in protecting the  people Government has to bear some of the responsibilities so that the people can live more happily".

The Andoni Council Chairman ,Chief Awortu also said the Public Transport Scheme which he emulated from the Rivers State Governor is a good policy.

He explained that the transport scheme would be operated at a subsidized rate in Andoni.

Andoni Council Boss further explained that the Vehicles which include two Hiace Buses and a Ciena Car will ply from Port Harcourt to Ngo Town, Andoni and vice versa as well as from Bori to Ngo Town, Andoni and vice versa.

         PDP Chairman Andoni Victor Ere

Chief Awortu also hinted that the Council would increase the fleets in due course.

"The Council has provided three Vehicles to be conveying our people from Port Harcourt to the Council Headquarters, Ngo and from Bori to the Council Headquarters, Ngo at subsidize rate so that our people will know that they voted for the Government and that the Government has not abandoned them".

"The fleets will be increased but we have to start somewhere because the difficulty is biting".

"We saw the other day that the State Government has kick-started a similar programme and we can do nothing but to follow suit, when you see a good policy,  you have to emulate it and bring it down to your people, let it spread".

"This is a way of saying thank you to our people and encouraging them to believe in the Government and to believe in the corporate existence and friendship of the Andoni people and of course as part of Rivers State and that extend to Nigeria".

The PDP Chairman in Andoni Local Government Area, Ere Victor who commissioned the Vehicles for use thanked the Council Chairman Erastus Awortu for alleviating the plight of the people of Andoni at this critical time.

"I will use this opportunity to thank the Council Chairman, we all know what is happening in Nigeria today concerning the fuel subsidy removal, it is a commendable initiative for him to buy these three Vehicles to reduce the burden of transportation on our people occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy".

"This necessary action by the Federal Government has created some economic difficulties on Nigerians, it is affecting many families. I'm highly impressed that the Council Chairman thought it necessary to provide these Buses as palliatives to reduce the hardship on our people".
