Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area, Dr. Erastus Awortu has lamented on the plot to bring back youths restiveness and insecurity in the Area.

According to Dr Awortu, there is alleged  campaign of calumny by some desperate politicians in Andoni to discredit and undermine the achievements of the administration especially the painstaking effort to restore lasting peace and stability in Andoni .

The Andoni Local Government boss in a statement stated that it is fallacious for anyone to insinuate that his administration inherited peace in Andoni and that he allegedly sponsored violence in Ngo town, all in a bid to smear his image, score cheap political point and trigger a resurgence of insecurity in the area.

He emphasized that the claim by the desperate politicians is absolutely false, misleading, inciting and should be disregarded in its entirety.

Dr Awortu relayed that prior to the inception of his administration, Andoni was under the siege of heightened insecurity occasioned by violent activities of rival cult groups, protracted communal crisis and all forms of criminality which bedeviled the land, a situation where people could not easily visit or return home without fear of molestation.

IS A REFUTAL BY THE CHAIRMAN OF ANDONI LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHIEF ERASTUS C. AWORTU, PhD., DSSRS, JP.

Our attention has been drawn to a campaign of calumny by some desperate politicians in Andoni wherein they attempted to discredit and undermine the achievements of my administration especially our painstaking effort to restore lasting peace and stability in Andoni which we all enjoy today.

It is fallacious for anyone to insinuate that my administration inherited peace in Andoni and that I allegedly sponsored violence in Ngo town, all in a bid to smear my image, score cheap political point and trigger a resurgence of insecurity in Andoni.
In their desperation to smear the goodwill of my administration, they hired thugs to stage-manage shooting in Ngo as a ploy to accuse me of sponsoring violence to scare away our people.

Their claim is absolutely false, misleading and inciting. It should be disregarded in its entirety.
For the avoidance of doubt, prior the inception of my administration Andoni was under the siege of heightened insecurity occasioned by violent activities of rival cult groups, protracted communal crisis and all forms of criminality which bedeviled our land, a situation where people could not easily visit or return home without fear of molestation, even the authors of this falsehood and their families were not spared.

However, the story is different today in Andoni since we assumed office more than 2years ago as people can now go about their lawful businesses without let or hindrance.

Socio-economic activities are now booming in Andoni year in, year out with the successful hosting of three editions of the Andoni Unity Carnival consecutively and this has continued to attract tourists and investors from far and near to Andoni and boosted our local economy.

It is therefore preposterous that those who once commended us and sang our praises for rescuing Andoni from the siege of insecurity, underdevelopment and economic hardship could turn around barefaced to make such outlandish claim.

They are pained by the prevailing peace we have entrenched in Andoni with the support of security agencies, Traditional Rulers and Chiefs; they are also pained by the massive outpouring of goodwill of the people of Andoni towards my administration as a result of our uncommon approach to governance.

We therefore warn that within the ambit of the law, we will vehemently resist any attempt to turn Andoni into a theatre of war in the name of politics.

Finally, no amount of campaign of calumny against my administration will erode the gains we have made in the area of security in Andoni neither will it deter us in our quest to leave an enduring legacy of sustainable peace and development in Andoni.

Signed:

Chief Erastus C. Awortu, PhD., DSSRS, JP,
Chairman of Andoni Local Govt Area.
