Andoni LGA Halt Alleged Politically Motivated Planned Protest In The Area

Authority of Andoni Local Government Area says it has uncovered plot by some persons to stage a politically-sponsored protest in the area on Saturday, 6th January 2024 and another plan by some groups to stage a counter protest.

In a statement, the council chairman Dr. Erastus Awortu, said while recognizing the right of the people to a peaceful  protest to express their views on issues affecting them as enshrined in the law, the council will not condone any act that could lead to a breach of peace in Andoni under the guise of a peaceful protest.

According to Dr. Awortu, if the planned protest is allowed it could lead to a violent clash by the two groups or could be hijacked by those with ill-intention to unleash mayhem in the area.

The statement noted that the council gathered from reliable source that some political actors who are not pleased with the prevailing peace in Andoni may be behind the planned protest as part of their evil plot to return Andoni back to the inglorious days of heightened insecurity where Andoni was always in the news for the wrong reasons.

According to the statement, Traditional Rulers and Chiefs of the various Communities of Andoni are also put on notice to ensure no breach of peace in their domain.

The council has also put security Agencies on notice about the planned politically-sponsored staged protest in Andoni and also called on parents and guardians to caution their children and wards from being use by politicians to cause a breakdown of law and order in Andoni under the guise of a peaceful protest.
