Gunmen Killed Police Officer At A Checkpoint In Port Harcourt

Unknown gunmen have attacked Police men, killed one at a checkpoint in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The gunmen were said to have attacked the policemen while conducting routine stop and search at Eliozu flyover.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement stated that  policemen attached to Operation Sting of the Rivers State Police Command, while conducting routine stop and search at Eliozu flyover, yesterday, 21st February 2024, were ambushed by unidentified hoodlums operating in a carton-colored Sienna bus, with fully tinted glasses.

According to the Police image maker, the assailants, drove in from the Rumuodumaya axis, opened fire on the police team, resulting in the tragic loss of one Inspector who gave his life in the line of duty. Undeterred, the police team responded with bravery, engaged the attackers and manage to neutralize one of them with mask on his face, while the others escaped, sustaining gunshot wounds.

SP  Iringe-Koko revealed that the Command has launched a thorough investigation into the despicable act and has already identified the group responsible. 


She assured residents of Port Harcourt that the criminals will be apprehended and brought to justice, as no amount of intimidation will hinder the officers' unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of well-meaning citizens of the State.

SP Iringe-Koko added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu extend his condolences to the family and colleagues of the fallen inspector, and assured them that his sacrifice will not be in vain.
