SDN Harps on Tree Planting To Mitigate Climate Change

The Stakeholder Democracy Network ( SDN), a Non Governmental Organisation celebrating her 20 years anniversary of outstanding impact in the Niger Delta has eulogize the importance of tree planting in mitigating climate change. 

Speaking to Newsmen at the tree planting site a staff of SDN, Dr. Samuel Paul stated that planting of tree like coconut serves as food and also moderate the ecosystem, noting that trees take in the dangerous chemicals in the air while giving out oxygen for man. 

He explained that trees prevent erosion, serve as wind breakers, as well as improving air quality, reducing the green house gases, mitigate the impact of climate change especially on agriculture and food security. 

In his remark, Provost of Rivers State College of Health Science Management Technology,Professor Franklin Nlerum,   stated that the collaboration between SDN and the school management gave birth to the planting of trees in the school while commemorating with the organization as they celebrate their 20 years anniversary.

Also speaking, an environmentalist Mr. Kelvin Oduma said that his organisation also collaborated with SDN to educate the citizenry on the importance of tree planting. " We are celebrating with SDN to plant trees because it has many important factors" he stated. 

Earlier, the Director Finance and Administration, Dr. Afolabi Ogumula and Engineer Chris Nku  expressed the symbolic relationship between planting of tree and the environment, while a student of Rivers State College of Health Science Management Technology, Mr. Success Moses noted that the importance of tree planting to the society can not be over emphasized.

Highlights of the event was the significant planting of trees by the Provost and others.

Bille People Appeal To Governor Fubara To Prevail On Alhaji Asari Dokubo To Stop Evasion Of Territory

Rivers State Government Targets Reduction In Gender Based Violence
