Police in Rivers State said two persons were killed in Omuma local government area, following the breakdown of law and order in the various Local Government Council Secretariats, where supporters of the two Political factions clashed over the tenure of Local Government Council Chairmen.
Police public Relations Officer SP Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement noted that a police officer and a vigilante member were killed at Eberi, headquarters of the local government area.
According to the statement, to forestall more bloodshed and prevent a further breakdown of law and order, the Police have taken over the 23 Council Secretariats and some critical government infrastructure in the state.
SP Iringe-Koko revealed that conventional police officers and anti-riot officers have been deployed to the facilities.
While urging all groups and individuals to be law-abiding, the Command also warned that anyone who intends to cause mayhem in the state will be arrested and made to face the full weight of the law .
The police Image maker enjoined law-abiding residents and visitors to go about their lawful businesses without fear, as the command will carry out the constitutional duty of protecting lives and property of all citizens in the state.
