The shabby state of the school propelled the executive secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, NPTF, to call for a state of emergency on the campus when he visited.
When #awajisgeorgenews monitored the deplorable state of the school, it was observed that police officers living in the quarters, use buckets and plastic drums to shield their rooms from getting flooded from leaking roofs when it rains.
It was a disheartening moment for the executive secretary of the Nigeria police trust fund, NPTF, Mr. Mohammed Sheidu and his entourage as they were conducted round the deplorable state of the police training school in Nonwa Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The NPTF executive secretary who was speechless at the state of the school, noted that the environment is not conducive for training and wondered why the police training school in a State like Rivers State would still have a campus like that.
While being conducted round the school, Mr. Sheidu enjoined that a state of emergency be declared on the campus.
He explained that the visit is part of the tour round police facilities in the country, stressing that the school has to be fixed before it can be used for training again.
In a remark, House of Representative committee chairman on police affairs, Mr. Abubakar Makki stated that he will ensure the needful is done on the facility.
Also, the commandant police training school Nonwa, ACP Daniel Okere explained that for training to take place in the facility, the school needs to be fixed.
ACP Okere who commended the executive secretary for the visit, noted that the last training that took place in the school was in 2022 with the dilapidated buildings.
The team also visited the Counter Terrorism Unit, CTU that is also in a dilapidated state.
Rivers State will be hopeful that in the coming months, the training school and CTU could wear a new look, based on the assurances of the executive secretary of the NPTF.
