Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has approved the sum of eighty-five thousand naira as new minimum wage for civil servants in the state with effect from November 2024.
Head of State Civil Service, Dr. George Nweke made this known when he addressed journalists after a closed-door meeting with the Governor and Leadership of Organised Labour in the state.
Dr. Nweke further stated that the State Government will set up a technical committee that will work out the modalities of payment.
Chairman, Joint Public Negotiating Council, Mr. Emecheta Chukwu who also spoke to journalists, commended the Governor for paying above the approved national minimum wage of seventy thousand naira.
For the Chairman, Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Rivers State Chapter, Mr. Alex Agwumor said Governor Fubara who rose from the rank as a civil servant, has demonstrated that he is a workers friendly Governor.
The Labour leaders promised to support the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his kind gesture and welfare towards workers in the state.
