Police Rescues Six Month Old Baby Kidnapped By Neighbour in Port Harcourt

Father of the six months old child that was kidnapped on sunday, 29th,September,2024,by a neighbour, a dog meat Mr. Eric at Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, has confirmed the rescue of his baby by men and officers of the Rivers State Police command.

Mr. Anekan Sunday while speaking with Newsmen also confirmed the arrest of five suspects in connection with the incident.

Recalled that Mr Erica,abducted the six month child belonging to his co-tenant and ran away to Uyo,Akwa/Ibom state.

Detectives from Mile 1 Police Division trailed the suspect Erica to Uyo,arrested him and brought him back to Port Harcourt two weeks ago.

We gathered that Mr.Erica was said to have sold the baby for five hundred thousand naira to a buyer who took the baby to Enugu state.


Following discrete investigation,the detectives attached to Mile 1 Police Division rescued the child yesterday, Sunday,3rd November,2024 and arrested the female buyer and four other suspects,bringing the total to six suspects who are currently detained at Mile 1 Police station,Diobu, Port Harcourt.

As of the time of filing this report, police public Relations Officer SP Grace Iringe-Koko was yet to speak on the development.


Meanwhile a rights Advocate, Mr.Prince Wiro who is also the National Coordinator of Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability has commended the Police for their hard work and due diligence in the rescue of the child and arrests of six suspects.

Mr Wiro said "we sincerely commend the officers attached to Mile 1 Police Division for rescue of the child. It shows high level of professionalism and due diligence.

"We think that the officers deserve an award from the Police Authority in the state. He said.

Mr. Wiro urged the Police to arraign in court any of the arrested suspects found culpable during investigation, for justice to be served.

Rivers State Government Targets Reduction In Gender Based Violence
