IGP Strengthens Security On Waterways, Donates Six Gunboats To Rivers Police

As part of efforts to strengthen security on the waterways, the Inspector General of Police,Kayode Egbetokun has donated six operational gunboats to the Rivers State Police command.

IGP Egbetokun represented by the Deputy Inspector General of police in charge of operation, Ira Muhammed cautioned the officers against using the gun boats for personal business.


The Inspector General while presenting the operational gunboats to the command at Marine Police Division, Abonnema Wharf in Port Harcourt, said the donation is to improve security on the State's waterways.

On his part, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara represented by the secretary to the state government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo lauded the initiative as he acknowledged that the Maritime Union had only recently notified the Inspector General of Police on security concerns along the internal waterways.


The Governor, maintained that the IGP’s immediate response to the cries of the people and the subsequent provision of the six gunboats to the State Marine Police is highly commendable.

He stated that his administration  will continue to support the security agencies for effective policing of the state.


Governor Fubara further charged the Force Maritime Officers to ensure optimal use of the vessels and imbibe the culture of proper maintenance for lasting performance of the boats.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, emphasized that the addition of these armoured gunboats will significantly bolster security operations in the state's waterways. He assured that the newly acquired assets would be utilized judiciously to curb criminal activities and enhance the safety of maritime operators and residents alike. 



Our Correspondent report that the event was attended by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone sixteen, Adebola Hamzat, the commissioner of Police Bayelsa State, commissioner of Police Rivers State among other dignitaries.

Missing Person: Rivers State Police Command declares Miss Joy Woke Wiro

A  statement by the Spokesperson for the Rivers state Police command,SP Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed that she is 17 year old,a native of Ibaa in Emohua Local Government Area of the State,fair in complexion and about 5ft tall, speaks English and Ikwerre languages. SP Koko said the missing girl left home on Monday, September 8th,2025. All efforts made to trace her whereabout proved abortive. Ghost Lawyer Defends Client in Port Harcourt Court

  A magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt was thrown into confusion today Thursday, the 12th of March, 2026 when it noticed that a lawyer who had died since last year, 2025 December appeared before it on Tuesday the 10th of February, 2026 to conduct his matter. When the matter was called for hearing, and the lawyer was not present, the court on inquiry was informed by the litigant that his lawyer died since last year December 2025.
