Andoni LGA Sole Administrator Seeks Support From Traditional Rulers

Sole Administrator of the Andoni Local Government Area, Surveyor Atajit Francis is seeking support of the traditional leaders in driving development  and maintaining peace in Andoni. 

Speaking during an interface meeting with the Andoni Area Traditional Rulers Council in Port-Harcourt, the Andoni Sole Administrator, highlighted the crucial role traditional rulers play in community.

"I will actually need the cooperation of everyone especially the traditional rulers. 


"You are the custodians of all the communities at the grassroot level, and your impact is always very important," Francis said.

Atajit Francis restated his administration's commitment to drive critical segments, particularly in the areas of sanitation,  environmental management, youth development and staff welfare.

The Sole Administrator of Andoni LGA, Francis during the interface with traditional leaders in the area also acknowledged the peculiar challenges facing Andoni LGA and pledged to work towards addressing them. 

The Andoni Council boss also noted the requests from the traditional rulers council, including a bus, administrative office at Ngo, and maintenance of the public toilet  amongst others and promised to give them the necessary support in the attainment of their goals. 

He used the forum to invite traditional rulers, opinion leaders, women, youths as well as other stakeholders in Andoni to a security meeting with the state government and military units, scheduled for May 10th to discuss security challenges and share ideas.

The Andoni Sole Administrator expressed optimism that the gathering will yield positive outcomes, and pledged to maintain open communication.

Earlier, the Chairman- Andoni Area Traditional Rulers Council, King Aaron Ikuru who doubles as the Paramount Ruler of Ikuru kingdom in Andoni LGA while briefing the Sole Administrator of Andoni on the structure and activities of the traditional council, said they have been able to sustain peace in the area.


King Aaron Ikuru stated that the council was established by the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council Law No. 4 of 2015, comprising of recognized traditional rulers and co-opted members who work closely with the local government to promote peace and development in the area. 

King Ikuru who spoke through the council's secretary and the paramount ruler of Ataba kingdom, King Benson Egwenre said that the council has successfully rehabilitated ex-agitators through a monitoring committee, receiving N1 million monthly from the local government, with N500,000 allocated to support the ex-agitators in maintaining peace.

King Egwenre also hinted the Andoni Sole Administrator on their relationship with oil companies operating in Andoni and requested that he work closely with them to engage with these companies.

Expressing gratitude, the paramount ruler of Oron- ija, King Bartholomew Ikaan Egopyork thanked  Atajit Francis for meeting with them despite a short notice. 

King Egopyork prayed for God's guidance and support for his efforts, and expressed hope  that his tenure will be marked by significant achievements that benefit the people of Andoni

A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a document to the Andoni Sole Administrator, outlining project needs for the seven districts in Andoni, which will serve as a guide for future projects.
