Prioritize Peace, Public Interest In Your Reports, Rivers NUJ Tasks Journalists

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, has  urged journalists to  report responsibly, prioritizing peace and the public good interest.

The State Chairman of NUJ Rivers Council, Comrade Paul Bazia -Nsaneh stated this when members of the League of Character Clubs International paid a courtesy visit to the Council at the Ernest Ikoli Press center, Port Harcourt.

Comrade  Bazia -Nsaneh in a statement by the Council Secretary Dr. Ijeoma Tubosia also urged journalists to avoid  sensationalism while   underscoring  the NUJ's commitment to ensuring that media coverage contributes positively to the unity of the State.

He cautioned Journalists on the choice of words, noting the stance aligns with the  ethical codes of journalism, which emphasizes truth, accuracy, fairness.

" Journalists should exercise caution in their words they use while writing their reports. NUJ Rivers State Council will do everything within its reach to ensure that peace reigns in the State"

"journalists should report in the interest of peace, the NUJ is advocating for a media landscape that fosters understanding and cooperation, rather than escalating tensions in the State." 

Earlier, the President General of the League of Character Clubs International, Dr. Christian Kokoriko commended the Paul Bazia -Nsaneh led executives for what he described as " good and quality leadership"

Dr. Kokoriko said the executive displayed excellent character when it tracked the issue of Police and some of its members, noting that the executive in its action  demonstrated the saying that "the pen is mightier than the sword".

Dr Kokoriko who said without character there will be no development tasked  NUJ Chairman and members of his executive to be positive in their  presentation and continue to cooperate with others.

 He said essence of the visit is to intimate the Council of its forthcoming sports event, said sports it's an avenue to capture the youths.

The sports enthusiast said the finals of Dr Abiye Briggs Cup will come up on the 30th of May 2025 while he used the opportunity to invite all Journalists in the State to attend.

Highlight of the visit was presentation of Humanitarian Service Award to the Council and decoration of Chairman and his executive with character broaches.

Bille People Appeal To Governor Fubara To Prevail On Alhaji Asari Dokubo To Stop Evasion Of Territory

Rivers State Government Targets Reduction In Gender Based Violence
