Residents of Wokoma streets in Mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt today protested the failure of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHED to repair a faulty transformer at the area.
The protesters who lamented that the situation had thrown the area
into darkness for close to one month, stormed the PHED office at Abeokuta street, D/Line, Port Harcourt carrying placards with various inscriptions like "PHED You Are Supposed To Be
Agent Of Light Not Darkness, No Light No Payment, We Are Tired Of Paying For Darkness" among others.
In an interview with Journalists, one of the protesters, Mr. Collins Ebo said there had been no light in the area since 25th June emphasizing that they had written a series of letters to the authority and no response from them.
Another protester George Nwachukwu said when the earlier transformer had issues they met PHED on the matter which they were told that the fault due to vandalism was not their responsibility, but with the help of some good spirited individuals in the area the transformer was fixed.
Another female protester decried that the lack of power supply in the area is affecting her business and she pays her light bills monthly.
Our correspondent reports that some senior officials of PHED later held a private meeting with representatives of the protesters in their office and they promised to address the issue within two days.
