Foundation Of State Security, Consent Over Coercion And Its Implications In Governance In Nigeria

Written by Nduka Anyanwu In the complex fabric of governance, the true shield of a nation does not rest solely in its police forces or military might. Rather, it lies fundamentally in the consent of its people. Without the voluntary agreement and trust of its citizens, even the most formidable instruments of coercion become ineffective and hollow. Historically and philosophically, the legitimacy of a state is rooted in the consent of its governed. When citizens believe in the fairness, justice, and purpose of the government, they are more likely to obey laws voluntarily, fostering stability and cohesion. Conversely, when this trust erodes, the state's safety diminishes, often leading to civil disobedience or outright rebellion. The safety of the ruling class, therefore, is not secured through force or intimidation alone. It depends crucially on the obedience of the populace—an obedience that is rooted in confidence that their leaders act justly and uphold their rights.  When this t...

2027 Election: A Battlefield Between The Elites And Voices Seeking Change - Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa

Written by Nduka Anyanwu Nigeria’s democratic journey has been marked by remarkable progress and persistent challenges. Among the most pressing issues is the enduring dominance of a small elite class that controls key political and economic resources. As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, understanding how elite domination sustains inequality and influences democratic processes is crucial for charting a path toward greater social justice and inclusive governance. THE NIGERIAN ELITE: POWER BEHIND THE CURTAIN In Nigeria, the term "elite" often refers to a privileged minority—comprising political leaders, wealthy business magnates, influential traditional rulers, and members of powerful families—who wield disproportionate influence over national affairs. This elite class often monopolizes access to lucrative economic opportunities, key political positions, and media platforms, shaping policies that favor their interests. Historically, this concentration of power has ...

An Open Letter to Kemi Badenoch: Nigeria Deserves Respect, Not Interference

SPONSORED Dear Rt Hon. Kemi Badenoch, As a concerned Nigerian, I write to express growing concern over your recent actions, policies, and public statements that appear to cast Nigeria in a negative light, or worse — undermine our nation’s sovereignty and dignity. You serve today as a UK Cabinet Minister, but your roots trace back to Nigeria. While you have, at times, publicly denied your Nigerian identity, claiming to be “British and not Nigerian” when it suits political expediency, you cannot escape the responsibilities that come with your heritage — especially when your influence affects the lives and economies of African nations. It is increasingly clear that under your leadership, policies and trade positions taken by the UK government toward Nigeria have lacked fairness, empathy, and respect. Whether through aggressive trade terms, restrictive immigration rules, or patronizing commentary on African governance, your role seems more aligned with the outdated machinery of neoco...
