By: Awajis Josiah-Chijindu

Police officers from the Rivers State Police Command attached to  Eliparawon Police station on Monday, September 22,2025 rescued a male driver of a minibus also known as Keke bus from alleged mob action by teachers of a Secondary School located at Elo-lam avenue, off Udara junction,Egbelu/Ogbogoro road,ObioAkpor Local Government Area of the state.

In an interview with our correspondent,an eyewitness,Chukwuemeka Obodo who is also a member of Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign,a human rights organization in Rivers State said
“mine attention was drawn to an incident this morning, some minutes after 9am where people were trooping down to a particular street. At the street,a young man and a secondary school female student was inside a Keke bus,as at the time the crowd was going down there, the teachers of the school had descended on the driver and were beating him.

“When I came, I asked what happened, they said the girl is a minor, that he took the girl from school and they had warned him before now.I told two teachers I know there, to call the Police immediately and they should stop beating the young man which they ignored.

“They bundled the man inside his vehicle and drove the car to the school. The crowd was still following them to see what they are up to.They locked the school, chased the crowd outside. All the teachers excluding the female teachers descended on the young man.

They inflicted heavy injury on the young man. While I was hitting the gate telling them to stop,I equally called the SO of Ozuoba police station to inform him of the situation, the SO told me a patrol team is on there way coming to the school.

“I was there when the patrol team came .About three or four police officers with their patrol van intervened and stopped the action. That was when they opened the gate.

“I told the Police to go along with the girl, the young man and the teachers because two wrongs cannot make a right. The Police left with the young man . They told the principal of the school to come along with the young man’s phone that was seized and two other teachers to the station.

Mr. Chukwuemeka further stated that the two parties that have gone against the will of the law should face the law squarely.

He argued that If it is established that the young girl is a minor and the man have been taking her out,the man should face the law and the teachers who allegedly locked and beat up the man should also face the law also .
“We want a Nigeria where the law stands tall and straight” he said.

The Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command was yet to respond to enquiry on the incident by our correspondent as at press time.

However, our correspondent sighted video where the female student was sitting beside the driver in his pool of blood inside the school.
