Man Kills Brother For witchcraft Allegation In Rivers Community

A manhunt has been launched for Mr Nwalozie Chiwendu who allegedly used cutlass to cut and butcher his elder brother  Mr  chidiebere Isaiah of the same family in  Umunwacha village, in Ofeh community, Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State to death.

We learnt that the sad incident occurred at about 4pm on Thursday,12th February,2026 in the community.
Pictures of the deceased corpse sighted by our correspondent shows multiple machete cuts all over the dead victim's body.

 
In an interview with Journalists,the Youth President of Ofeh community,Mr  Chinonso Favour Chima described the incident as a very unfortunate situation.

" Yesterday within the evening hours,I got a call from some of my community persons telling me of the sad incident that happened between two brothers of the same compound.

"I cannot tell what happened but the story is that the younger one carried cutlass butchered his elder brother like meat .While the other persons who were around,before they could come he ran away after carrying out the devilish act.
"So I was called and I told them to quickly rush him to the hospital and I was running down from town to see how we can attend to the matter.

"On my way,they took him to the first hospital,on their way to the hospital the man died.Because is a murder case,I told them we cannot deposit him in the mortuary just like that.We have reported to the nearest Police Division within us here, notifying them of what happened and Police have taken note of it.

"The boy that committed the crime is on the run,we are looking for him.Community  has declared a search for him everywhere .We are searching for him to get him so that he can face the full wrath of the law.

"But for now,we have deposited the deceased in the mortuary.I have also tried to address the community and ask everybody to stay calm let us not take laws into our hands.Let us not cause more panic in the community.We have done all of that,we are still talking with critical stakeholders of the community.
"For now everywhere is calm" Mr Chima said.
As at press time we gathered that the incident has been reported to the Police Division in Eberi, Omuma Local Government Area.

The Public Relations Officer  for the Rivers State Police Command, Chief Superintendent of Police,CSP Grace Iringe-koko confirmed the incident.

CSP Iringe-Koko  said "information at my disposal indicates that the suspect used cutlass to machet the victim to death after accusing him (victim) of witchcraft that made him(suspect) not to prosper.

The corpse has been retrieved, deposited in the Mortuary  and a manhunt has been launched for the suspect with a view to arresting and bringing him to face the law in compliance to the directive of Commissioner of Police,CP Olugbenga Adepoju"

Missing Person: Rivers State Police Command declares Miss Joy Woke Wiro

A  statement by the Spokesperson for the Rivers state Police command,SP Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed that she is 17 year old,a native of Ibaa in Emohua Local Government Area of the State,fair in complexion and about 5ft tall, speaks English and Ikwerre languages. SP Koko said the missing girl left home on Monday, September 8th,2025. All efforts made to trace her whereabout proved abortive.
