A yet-to-be-identified Police Officer has allegedly shot dead a driver while three others were injured around Agip junction by Ada George road yesterday evening.
The incident reportedly occurred after the deceased, who was driving a vehicle, allegedly failed to stop when he was flagged down by police officers stationed around the Agip/Ada George Junction.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, told journalists that the incident happened at about 5pm, saying that one of the officers allegedly opened fire at the vehicle after the driver refused to stop.
According to the eye witness, the police officer fired three bullets. The vehicle lost control and hit three other people standing by the junction.
He added that after shooting the driver, the police officer started shooting sporadically in an attempt to escape. Some youths rushed at him, collected the gun from him and beat him. While they were beating the policeman, other officers arrived and rescued him.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe said she would make enquiries and get back to our correspondent, but was yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
