The Rivers State Police Command has rescued one Loveth, a resident of the State, who was kidnapped while seating in front of her shop. A statement by the Command's Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, said on the 2nd of this month, the victim was accosted by armed men who fired shots into the air before forcefully abducting her and taking her away in a vehicle. According to the statement, operatives of the Eleme Police Division commenced intelligence-led operations to track down the perpetrators. The operation led to the arrest of one suspect, Victor Ini, aged thirty five years, a member of the kidnapping gang.   The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Thursday, presented cheques totalling N2.32bn to 2,971 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased police officers under the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and IGP Family Welfare Schemes. The beneficiaries comprised families of police officers who died in service and were covered under the 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023 and 2024/2025 insurance policy years. The payments also included outstanding balances recovered from insurance companies following earlier partial settlements. The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, made this known during a press briefing at the Command's Headquarters in Port Harcourt. The CP said the officers have been recommended for dismissal after an orderly room trial and will be charged to court. Meanwhile, the Commissioner says it has arrested 14 suspected members of one-chance robbery syndicates operating in Port Harcourt and its environs. Police recovered a mini-bus allegedly used by the syndicate and 16 mobile phones suspected to have been stolen from victims.
