"We Don't Want Airport Concession"... Says Staff of PortHarcourt International Airport As They Join Nationwide Protest

Staff of Port Harcourt International Airport today joined the staff of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN; and affiliate unions in a nationwide peaceful protest against planned airport concession. The protest was carried out by four unions – Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ASSAN), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (NUATE), National Union of Air Traffic Employees (ANAP) and Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP). The aviation sector had staged the peaceful protest in expression of its disagreement with the Federal Government on its plan to concession four major international airports – Port Harcourt, Lagos, Abuja and Kano. 30 Year Old Commercial Motorcyclist Alledgedly Rape 13 Year Old Girl in a Bush

A 30 year old man Mathew Gor  has been arrested by the police for allegedly raping a thirteen year old girl in Barayira community  Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.   Cousin, to the 13 year old girl,Mr. Sebastian Mission who was also the guardian of the rape victim told our correspondent that the mother of the alleged rape victim last Friday while seeing her daughter off after a visit, saw the suspect at trailer Park in Eleme LGA  at about 6pm and pleaded with him to take the 13 year old girl home since both of them are from  the same community.   Mr. Mission said that the suspect obliged and carried the thirteen year old girl together with two persons on his Motorcycle. The Guardian of the rape victim revealed that after the suspect dropped off the other persons at a village before Barayira community, the said Mr. Gor diverted the thirteen year old girl to a lonely road that Friday night and threatened her with a knife before he raped her.  Mr.

Scout Association Election, Karibi-Whyte Emerges Winner

Ikokwu spare part Trader Commit Suicide Due to Frustration

            A business man at Ikoku spare parts market in Diobu, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers state has committed suicide over business failure.  The forty five years old Chinedu Ogwa, from Ebonyi state was said to have drank rat poison at his residence in Mile 3 Diobu last night and dropped a note for his wife.  Speaking to Journalists wife of the deceased, Mrs Chidinma  Ogwa explained that she came back from church with her children and observed that the door was locked while the torch was on inside the house.  Mrs Ogwa revealed that she collected the key from where they usually keep the key and opened the door only to see the lifeless body of the husband and a substance suspected to be poison. Police Parade four Suspects for Allege kidnap of Sokari Braide.

Rivers State Police command has paraded four suspected kidnappers who allegedly kidnapped a sixty -five years old man, Mr. Sokari Braide at Elechi waterfront Mile one Diobu, Port Harcourt local Government Area.  Police Public Relations Officer Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, while addressing Journalists, said following discrete investigation by the Eagle Crack Police unit led to  the  arrest of the Prime suspect Perfect Agbasi from Edo state. Mr. Omoni noted that the group had collected ransom of one point two million naira at a location in Andoni local Government before their arrest. No Need to Carrying of Firearms by Vigilante/ OSPAC, Our Men are Everywhere...AIG Zone 16

The Nigeria police have maintained that there is no need for Vigilante groups and OSPAC to use firearms. The Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG; Austin Agbonlahor incharge of zone 16,Yenagoa comprising Rivers and Bayelsa States Police Commands stated this at the Rivers State Police command headquarters in Port Harcourt while speaking with Journalists. Earlier, Rivers State Commissioner of Police Mr. Joseph Mukan outlined some challenges facing the command to include lack of training, lack of crime fighting equipment and inadequate manpower . Mr. Mukan noted that despite the challenges, men and officers of Rivers State Police command will continue to do their best to ensure criminality is reduced to the minimum. 'Pay us our Salaries' Unpaid Workers of Ahoada West LGA Protest

A group known as Unpaid Workers of Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State has staged a peaceful protest to the State House of Assembly to over non-payment of salary. The protesters numbering over one hundred carried placards with inscriptions; Hope Ikiriko Pay us our Salary, We are not slaves, as they marched to the gate of the Assembly.  One of the protesters, Mrs. Peace Inam who spoke with journalists said the Local Government Chairman,  Mr. Hope Ikiriko has refused to pay them for over one year despite appeals from different quarters. Husband of Woman Throw into Septic Tank in Igwuruta Seek Justice

Husband of  Mrs Chizoba Eke, the woman kidnapped and thrown into a septic tank at Igwuruta,Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State is demanding for Justice.  Mr. Eke told Journalists at the hospital where his wife was receiving treatment that he wants the case to be given desired attention.  Mr. Eke stated that he is yet to understand why a man he considered a brother would want his  wife dead and also kidnapped his 6 months old baby . Police Begin Clampdown on Illegal Possession of Firearms

Police blame Rival Cult Groups for the Killing of 3 Persons in Rivers

The Rivers State Police command said war of supremacy between Icelanders and Greenlanders in Luebe Community  Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State  claimed the lives of two cultists and a Chief who was said to be supporting one of the Cult groups. Woman Rescue from Septic Tank After 3days in Igwuruta Rivers State

A woman identified as Mrs. Chizoba Eke who was declared missing has been found in a septic tank in an uncompleted building at Igwuruta in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. Mrs. Eke a mother of two who was kidnapped from her home with her six months old baby on August 17, 2020, was thrown into the septic tank after several beatings from her abductor. Rivers State Government Open Markets for Business...Oil Mill and Slaughter Remain Close

Rivers State Government has announced the re-opening of  all  markets in the State with effect  from Tuesday, August 18, 2020 from 7 a.m and close at 6p.m daily. Governor Nyesom Wike who announced this in a state-wide broadcast  today said that Rumuokwurusi(Oil Mill) and Oginiba Slaughter Markets still remain closed. One Killed as OSPAC Allegedly Storm Elimgbu Community

Three members of OSPAC operating in Atali community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State have been detained at Elimgbu Police Station for allegedly killing one Bright Amawhule an indigene of Elimgbu.  Youth President of Elimgbu, Uche Morgan in a telephone interview with our correspondent said the deceased victim was shot by OSPAC members from the neighbouring community when he went to check workers molding block in his site. Mr. Morgan also said some youths of Elimgbu confronted the OSPAC personnel who could not state the reason for their action and handed them over to the Police.  Mr. Morgan who described the Killing as provocative and unwarranted maintained that the land where the deceased was shot was his land. Election Petition Tribunal Sack Bayelsa State Governor ...Order for fresh Election

The Bayelsa Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja has nullified the election of  Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo over the governorship election in the state. A three-member panel of justices presided by Justice Ibrahim Sirajo today upheld the petition of the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party ,ANDP; hinged on the exclusion of the party in the November 16, 2019 governorship election. The panel ordered fresh election in the states within 90 days.

Alledged Killers of Chima Ikwunado Pleaded not Guilty to the Charges

The trial case of four dismissed officers from the Eagle Crack squad of Mile One Police Station accused for the  murder of an auto mechanic, Late Chima Ikwunado and tortured  four other  have stalled at the High court sitting in Port Harcourt. The case which was officially taken over by the Rivers State Government was stalled due to the defense counsel opposing the continuation of the case since the proof of evidence of service was not cleared and all documents needed as evidence were not found in the originating summon. Our Correspondent  reports that the four accused persons Ayogu Fidelis, Eke Chibuzor, Egbunefu Felix and Rose Georgewill  pleaded not guilty to five counts of murder, torture, conspiracy and unlawful infliction of injuries. Man Caught Raping A Teenage Girl At Uncompleted Building In Port Harcourt

A twenty years old man identified as Uche has been caught by vigilante group at Ekwe Street Mile 3 Diobu in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State for allegedly raping a teenage girl at an uncompleted building in the area. The Chief Security Officer of the vigilante group, Mr. Godstime Ihunwo told our correspondent that residents of the area alerted him when they noticed some young men dragging a teenager inside an uncompleted building. Mr. Ihunwo said based on the information he had to mobilise his men who caught the suspect while perpetrating the crime. Comrade Ihunwo said the suspect and the teenage girl are now with the police contacted the spokesman Rivers State Police Command, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni said he is yet to get details on the incident.

No More Task Force in Rivers, as Governor Wike Dissolves Team With Immediate Effect

The Rivers State Government has dissolved Taskforce on Illegal Street Trading and Motor Parks. Governor Nyesom Wike in a Press Release through the Commissioner for Information and Communications Mr. Paulinus Nsirim said members of the team will be paid their August salary when they return their Identity cards and Operational vehicles to the office of the secretary to the state government. The statement further revealed that the Special Assistant to the governor in charge of the team has also been relief of his appointment.
