Court Grants Former Governor Of Imo State Bail

  A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to the Former Governor of Imo State Rochas Okorocha and Presidential Aspirant of the All Progressive Congress ,APC;on the sum of N500million and one surety in like sum. The court says the surety should be a citizen of Nigeria, own a landed property in Abuja, and original property documents should be deposited with the court registry. It added that the registrar of the court will verify the said property and the defendant is not to travel outside the jurisdiction of the court, without the court’s permission. The EFCC is to deposit the defendant’s passport with the court registry.  Registrar of the court is to inform the Nigerian Immigration service, that the passport of the defendant is with the court. Mr. Okorocha is billed to attend APC Presidential screening today in Abuja.

Winner Of PDP Presidential Primary Election Atiku Abubakar Promise To Unite Nigeria

  The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; has declared the Former Vice President of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar as the winner of the just concluded presidential primary election conducted in the convention Electoral Committee of the party in Abuja. Abubakar who scored a total of 371 votes to beat his closet opponent Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike who scored 237 votes was declared winner by the chairman of the Convention Electoral Committee Senator David Mark. Rivers Police Confirms 31 Persons Died In PortHarcourt Stampede

  The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that a total of thirty-one persons lost their lives in the stampede that occurred at Polo Club, Tomba Street, Port Harcourt . Spokesperson of the command DSP Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement noted that preliminary investigations conducted by the Command revealed that the unfortunate incident occured when the management of Kings Church Assembly organized a crusade which attracted mammoth crowd.  It further revealed that there were plans by the church management to give away  food and gift items to the less privilege,but  Unfortunately the crowd became uncontrollable and all efforts made by the organizers to bring sanity proved abortive hence, the stampede.  She explained that on receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police immediately drafted adequate police patrol teams to the scene and they were able to restore normalcy. FG Slams Charges Against Alleged Wife Killer Nwachukwu

  The Federal Government of Nigeria has filed 23-count charges against Peter Nwachukwu, husband of late popular gospel artist, Osinachi, who died on April 8 after he allegedly assaulted her.  Mr. Nwachukwu was charged under sections 104 and 379 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, by the Attorney-General of the Federation.  The defendant was charged with culpable homicide contrary to section 221 of the Penal Code .

  Presidential Aspirant and Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi has joined Labour Party days after announcing his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party. Mr. Obi is expected to contest the presidential primary on the platform of Labour party. INEC Extends Deadline For Party Primaries

  The Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC; has extended the deadline for political parties to conduct their primaries for the 2023 general elections. INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, announced this in a statement in Abuja. This comes hours after leaders of various political parties met with the leadership of the electoral umpire led by the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja. At the meeting, the politicians under the auspices of the Inter-Party Advisory Council ,IPAC;appealed to INEC to adjust the timetable for the forthcoming polls. Chairman of IPAC, Sani Yabagi of the Action Democratic Party ,ADP; explained that adjusting the timetable of the election became necessary because of the current timetable which he said was too tight for the political parties.   A driver Arowosaye Taofeeq who was allegedly brutalized by personnel of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,NSCDC;in boundary town between Rivers  and Imo States has called for justice. Mr Taofeeq told was correspondent that he was conveying passengers from waterlines in PortHarcourt when he got to the boundary town between Rivers and Imo states after Omerelu in Ikwerre LGA. The alleged victim said as he was about to cross the NSCDC checkpoint,a boy on mufti who allegedly collects money for the Civil defence officers hit his car. APC Strong Man Magnus Abe Throws In The Towel

   A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Magnus Abe, has withdrawn from the party gubernatorial primary election holding today. The APC primary election and State House of Assembly is scheduled to hold at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. The former Senator,a lly and former Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House, Tony Okocha, made this known in a statement  and gave reasons why the faction would not be participating in the exercise. Sim Fubara Emerges Winner Of PDP Governorship Primary In Rivers

  Former Rivers State Accountant-General, Siminialayi Fubara has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship candidate for the 2023 gubernatorial election. Announcing the result at the end of voting at the Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP 2022 Gubernatorial Primary Election held at the Obi Wali Conference Center, Port Harcourt, the Electoral Committee Chairman, Prof. Walter Mboto, said out of the total vote cast  898, Siminialayi Fubara scored 721 against his closest contenders, Isaac Kamalu who pulled 86 and George Kelly who scored 37 votes.  Others are Chief West Morgan 4 votes, Felix Obuah 2 votes, Chief David Briggs, 4 votes, Dr. Tammy Danagogo 36 votes while other contestants had zero votes each. However some Aspirants like Felix Obuah,Dr. Tammy Danagogo and some others boycotted the election.

Peter Obi Dumps PDP,Pull Out Of Presidential Race

  The PDP Presidential Aspirant and Former governor of Anambra State, Mr.Peter Obi has dumped  the Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP;. and resigned from the presidential race. Mr. Obi announced his withdrawal from the party’s primary in a letter dated May 24 and addressed to the National Chairman of the  party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu. Besides pulling out of the contest for the party’s presidential ticket barely three days to the exercise, the presidential aspirant also announced his resignation from the PDP.

Court Deny Farah Bail, Adjourn To June 2nd

  A  High Court sitting in PortHarcourt has adjourned to 2nd of June 2022 on the bail application filed by the Governorship Aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, Farah Dagogo. Trial Judge, Justice Chiwendu Nworgu   adjourned the case after ruling on the preliminary objection on the issue of jurisdiction filed by counsel to the defendant which the court dismissed. Justice Nworgu  advised the parties to return on the next adjourned date to argue the motion for bail. Speaking to Newsmen,  Counsel to the defendant,Cosmos Eenweluzo after explaining his reason for withdrawing the preliminary objection on jurisdiction, expressed displeasure that the action of the prosecution is intentional to still have his client in correctional center. On his part, prosecution counsel Chidi Ekeh dismissed the allegations by the defence counsel, stating that they have the right to respond to the defence application. Court Remand Police Officer For Alleged Killing

  A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded a Police Officer of the Rivers State Command Mr. Ijabula Jingi  to Correctional Center for allegedly shooting a 47 year old Wisdom Nwordu to death, at his residence Akpa Anaka Kinika, Egbelu, in Obio Akpor local government area of the state. The suspect who faces one count charge of murder under section 319, CAP 37 of the Criminal Code, was alleged to have jumped into the deceased compound at about 2am, 11 May, 2022, and shot late Wisdom Nwordu on the chest. The presiding Magistrate, Chief Magistrate Rosemary Ibanibo, ruled that the case file be sent to Director of Public Prosecution, DPP,for legal advice, as the court lacks jurisdiction to hear the matter. The Court however adjourned the case to 5 July, 2022, and remanded the suspect, pending DPP advice.

Rivers State Government Launches RIV-CARES Programme

    The Rivers State Government has launched the State Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (RIV- CARES) Programme.   Governor Nyesom Wike performed the launching at the NBA Secretariat in Port Harcourt.   Speaking through the Rivers State Deputy Governor,Dr.  Ipalibo Banigo, Governor Wike, said the programme was to mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic, on the poor and vulnerable households and support micro and small-scale enterprises as a means of stimulating economic growth post covid.   According to the State Chief Executive, the State Government had signed in for the Programme, made provisions in the 2022 Budget for Result Areas and signed Funds Release Policy, which is an assurance to the World Bank that funds shall be released for the implementation of the programme.   Governor Wike said the launching of the RIV-CARES Programme would create awareness for the People of the State and engender expression of interest by beneficiary households, communities and opera

Court Grants Order Compelling PDP, INEC To Show Why Governorship Primaries In Rivers Should Hold Without Farah

  A  Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja  ordered the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to show reasons why the party’s gubernatorial primaries should hold in Rivers State without the plaintiff, Hon Doctor Farah Dagogo. Justice Taiwo Taiwo in suit no FHC/ABJ/CS/654/2022 ordered the PDP and INEC to show cause on May 24th 2022 why Hon. Doctor Farah Dagogo’s application seeking injunctive orders against the PDP and INEC in respect of the PDP gubernatorial primary election for Rivers State should not be granted. Dagogo had filed a suit on May 12, 2022 challenging his prevention from the screening exercise of his party (PDP) for the on coming gubernatorial primary election for Rivers State having submitted all the required documents. One Reported Dead As Rivers APC Protest Turns Bloody

  One person have been reportedly killed during an APC Protest in Rivers State.    It is not yet clear if the victim died as a result of the sporadic shooting by the Police to disperse the protesters or as a result of a stampede. Federal High Court Reject Nnamdi Kanu Bail Application

  The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has denied the bail application of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra 'IPOB; Nnamdi Kanu. Justice Binta Nyako who ruled on the bail application, said the issue of Kanu’s absence in the past, since 2017, should be determined, before his bail application, will be entertained. She stated that Mr. Kanu breached his former bail conditions and until that is heard, his present bail application is immature. Ahead of the ruling on the bail application, the Federal Government had filed a six-count amended charge against the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra 'IPOB; Nnamdi Kanu. Justice Nyako, however, berated the prosecution for filing the amended charge just hours before the ruling. She said she was not aware of the amended charge until she got to the court this morning.
