2023 ELECTIONS: Beware Of Fake Video & Audio Clips Concocted To Tarnish The Image Of Gov. Wike

   It has come to the attention of Rivers State Government that certain individuals have undertaken to conduct a campaign of calumny against the person of the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, GSSRS, Life Bencher, utilizing all forms of doctored and false audio and visual materials and circulating same particularly over the internet. Of particular mention is a doctored audio clip that was concocted by Saharareporters during the 2016 re-run election in Rivers State in which they purported same to be a discussion between the governor and Hon. Dum Dekor. That audio concoction was duly discredited and discarded as a piece of rubbish masterminded by evil people to tarnish the image of Gov. Wike. Viral Video: Police Arrest Personnel Involved In Electoral Malpractice In Rivers State

  Rivers State Police Command has arrested and taken into custody one officer and three Inspectors for interrogation.  The Officers were arrested following a video which trended on social media suggesting their involvement in alleged electoral malpractice. The police pick-up van in the trending video has also been impounded for thorough investigation.  Police Public Relations Officer SP Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement assured the electorates in Rivers State of the command's commitment to promoting the rule of law, and ensuring that all offenders found culpable are adequately sanctioned. The Command urges all residents to remain calm and await official announcement of the election results.

NUJ Regrets Attacks On Journalists

   Nigeria Union of Journalists regrets that some  Nigerian Security Personnel and Politicians have learned little about good conduct during elections, as attacks on voters and journalists  during yesterday's general election across the country still persist.  Specifically, the Union expresses serious concern by the conduct of Policemen in Port Harcourt who assaulted a journalist and political thugs in Ibadan, Oyo State who attacked voters,  including Journalists.  It was recorded by the NUJ Election Situation Room at the Union's National Secretariat, Abuja that a reporter with The PUNCH, Gbenga Oloniniran, was on Saturday afternoon arrested by policemen near the residence of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in Rumuiprikon, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.   A pregnant woman,Ruth Osah  and a member of Emohua Local Vigilante Service (EMOLVIS), Mark Orduize  is said to be killed in Ubimini community Ward 12 in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State today with one other EMOLVIS personnel  injured and two houses of EMOLVIS personnel burnt halting the conduct of Presidential and National Assembly Elections in the area. Rivers Police Arrest Hon Chinyere Igwe For Money Laundering

  Police Officers from Rivers State Command deployed to INEC  Headquarters Aba  Road today 24/2/2023 at about 0245hrs, while on stop and search, arrested one Hon Chinyere Igwe, member House of Representatives representing Port Harcourt  Federal Constituency 2 with a cash sum of 498,100 USD inside a bag in his car.   Also recovered was a list for distribution of the money.  The AIG Election,  AIG Abutu Yaro has ordered swift interrogation and arraignment in court.  The Command urges all contestants and political parties to comply strictly with provisions of the Electoral Act and other relevant laws.  Members of the public are encouraged to avail themselves of the following hotlines to report any observation they believe have potential to lead to crime or break down of law and order:  08032003514, 08098880134. 

Police Restrict Movement On Election Day

Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that after due consultation with relevant Stake-Holders in the State on the 2023 General Election scheduled to hold on 25th February 2023, has placed the following restrictions: 1. That there will be total restriction of all forms of vehicular movement on roads, waterways and other forms of transportation between the hours of 12am (midnight) on Friday 24th February 2023, to 6pm on Saturday 25th February 2023 with the exception of those on essential services such as INEC officials, Electoral observers, Medical personnel, Ambulances responding to medical emergencies, Firefighters, etc. 2. NUJ Condemns Attack On Atlantic TV, Wish FM Station ...*Says It's An Attempt To Muzzle Media*

  The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned Tuesday's attack on Atlantic Television and Wish FM stations in Port Harcourt, where equipment and facilities worth millions of Naira were destroyed. The Union, in a statement by its chairman and secretary, Stanley Job Stanley and Ike Wigodo respectively, expressed shock over the attack,  describing it as "barbaric, shameful, cowardly, irresponsible and retrogressive". The Council said the bombing and gun shots that occurred at the premises of the media house are attempts to muzzle the media by the enemies of democracy.  NUJ said, "Never in the history of Rivers State have we witnessed such barbaric act. 2023 Election: Court Remand House Of Representatives Member Ephraim Nwuzi To Correctional Center

   Magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded  member representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency Mr. Ephraim Nwuzi in Prison custody for 10days for remand warrant Mr. Nwuzi who is also the Candidate of APC for Etche Omuma Federal  constituency was arrested by state CID for alleged video sent to them for inciting violence, promoting communal crisis, treasonable felony and conspiracy. Our Correspondent reports that no preferred charge was brought before the court When the case was mentioned, the police requested that Nwuzi be remanded in Police custody on till the investigation is completed, but the prosecutor opposed that Nwuzi be remanded in Prison custody, noting that his statement in the video can cause violence during and after election. 2023 General Election: Police Invites Rep Over Inciting Comments In Trending Video

  Rivers State Police Command has condemned in all totality a video circulating on social media of a member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Ephraim Nwuzi,  saying residents of the State should be shot during the presidential election  on Saturday. The Supervising Assistant Inspector-General of Police for the Elections, AIG Abutu Yaro,  has invited the APC Chieftain for questioning on the content of the video to ascertain the intent of the lawmaker in the video. AIG Yaro assured INEC officials, INEC Ad Hoc staff, NYSC members, foreign and local observers,  voters, and all other stakeholders in the elections of adequate security before, during, and after the general election.  He urged all contestants and political parties to exercise caution and called on the Rivers State residents to call the police at the following emergency numbers to report all suspicious activities and persons during the course of the elections: 08032003514, 08098880134. 

Alleged Explosion At Radio Station:Police Commence Investigation

   Rivers State Police Command has Commenced investigation into the explosion at Wish FM/Atlantic Television Network in Port Harcourt. Police Public Relations Officer SP Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement explained that Information received from one Peter Anietie of 99.5 Wish FM/Atlantic Television Network  reviewed how some hoodlums threw an explosive device into the generator house and transformer area, that damaged major transmitting equipment  in both the radio and television stations.  According to the statement,Operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Department (EOD) have been deployed  to the scene  to ascertaining the veracity of the information and to unravel what exactly caused the explosion. Presidential Election: 1 AIG 4 Commissioners Of Police Deployed To Rivers State

  The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 13 ,(Awka)Anambra State, AIG Abutu Yaro will supervise four Commissioners of Police deployed to Rivers State for the 2023 General Elections.  The CP’s are CP Yomi Olanrewaju, CP Samuel Musa, CP  Lanre B. Sikiru, and CP Aderemi Adeoye, coordinating the State Headquarters. Spokesperson Rivers State Police Command SP Grace Iringe-Koko in statement said the Rivers State Commissioner of Police,  Okon  Effiong has been redeployed for election duty in Enugu State. Rivers State Police Command Arrest Human Traffickers

  Detectives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Rivers State Police Command, have arrested one Mary  Samson in connection with the abduction and trafficking of one Favour Cleopas  aged 15 on 29th January 2023.  The suspect allegedly took the victim to Lagos State on 5th February 2023 for Prostitution. Investigation revealed that the suspect conspired with one Blessing Christopher to send girls to one Christabel Christopher, who is into prostitution in Lagos State.  Two victims earlier trafficked to Lagos by the suspect, Tari Paul 16 years and Blessings Temple 16 years, have been rescued by Detectives and are helping in the investigation. In another Development, the Rivers State Police  arrested one Victoria Okon 23 years, Jessica Ndifreke  26 years, Charity Samuel  19 years and Chinaza Daniel  25 years in connection with the abduction of a 4 year old Unique Tan Timitoms  at Afam.  Victoria, who is known by the victim was said to have lured him to the other suspects.

Fake Account: Police Arrest Two Impersonators Using CP Name In Rivers State

  Rivers State Police Command has arrested two impersonators who allegedly opened a fake facebook account with a picture of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Okon Effiong, to scam people.   According to a statement by the Police Public relations officer, Rivers State command, SP. Grace Iringe-koko said the suspects, 28 year old Amadi Hemenachi and 27 year old Goodluck Nweke Etche indigenes used the fake Facebook account to obtain money from several unsuspecting citizens who were mostly job and admission seekers.   The statement added that the suspects who confessed to the crime will be charged to court for conspiracy, impersonation, forgery, obtaining money by pretense, and unlawful possession of multiple ATM cards,   after investigations.   The Rivers State Commissioner of Police advises members of the public to be mindful of the personal confidential details they display on social media handles; and promptly report cases of hacked social media accounts.

CBN Denies Directing Banks To Collect Old 500 ,1000 Naira Notes

  The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has denied reports making the rounds that it has authorized deposit money banks to collect the old N500 and N1,000 banknotes. In a statement by Osita Nwanisobi, CBN’s Director of Corporate Communications on Friday, the apex bank said for the avoidance of doubt the CBN is only reissuing and recirculating the old N200 banknotes and which is expected to circulate as legal tender for 60 days up to April 10, 2023, in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s national broadcast on Thursday. The CBN advised members of the public to disregard any message and/or information not formally released by the bank on this subject. It also advised media practitioners to endeavour to verify any information from the correct sources before publication.
