Rivers NAWOJ Visits PH Children's Home Over Discarded New Born Baby

  Disturbed by the shocking discovery of a new born baby abandoned in a refuse dump in Mile 3, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Rivers State Chapter, paid a visit to the Port Harcourt Children's Home, where the baby was reported to have been sent.  This visit, according to NAWOJ, is to identify with the child, express her concern over the baby's well-being, support and assure the caregivers of her commitment towards the upbringing of the child.  You will recall that in the early hours of yesterday, members of a vigilante group rescued a new born female child believed to be less than six hours old.  The baby who was wrapped with clothes and abandoned to die, was still carrying her placenta when she was discovered.  The chairperson of NAWOJ, Susan Serekara-Nwikhana, who led members of the Association on the visit condemned the act in its entirety.  In an interview with Newsmen, she described the abandonment of the child as inhumane, barbaric and cruel.  Serekara-N

New Born Baby Struggle For Life, Rescued By Vigilante Group In Rivers State

  A new born baby was found at the waste bin in front of Mile 3 Park,Diobu PortHarcourt  and was rescued  by Vigilante group early this morning. Chief Security Officer  of Nkpolu Oroworukwo community, Mile 3 Diobu, Comrade Godstime Ihunwo in an interview with our Correspondent, Awajis George, explained that at about 3am this morning while on patrol in the area he discovered the baby  "At about 3am this morning Friday morning 28th April 2023 while on routine patrol, I discovered a new born baby which is less than 6 hours old. Rivers State Ranks Amongst The Best In Malaria Control : Banigo

  Rivers State Deputy Governor  Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo says Rivers State ranks amongst the best 5 States in malaria control in Nigeria. Dr. Banigo stated this in a statement in Port Harcourt to commemorate the 2023 World Malaria Day yesterday.   According to the Public Health Physician, the role of Governor Nyesom Wike in upgrading health facilities in the State has contributed immensely to the remarkable progress.   The Deputy Governor said there were an estimated 247million cases of malaria in 2021, which is an increase of 245million cases in 2020, noting that the prevalence rate in Rivers State is 9% against a national prevalence of 22%.   She noted that the prevalence rate which  was 11.3% in 2018 had dropped to 9% which is commendable.   Dr. Banigo said Nigeria has set the pace by being the 2nd Country after Ghana to approve the R 21 malaria vaccine which is expected to prevent malaria in children between 5 to 36 months of age.   The Deputy Governor commended the State Malaria

Suspected Cultists Blocked Road In Diobu Rob Motorists,Road Users

  Hoodlums suspected to be cultists Sunday night at about 9pm mounted road block at Uruala/Abakiliki junction,Mile 1 Diobu, PortHarcourt Rivers State, robbed motorists and road users for over minutes forty minutes without Intervention of the Police. Alleged Attempted murder: Dave Ordor calls for Justice

  A prominent Son of Akwete in Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State, Dave Rufus Ordor, is calling on the Inspector General of Police, and other relevant agencies to investigate an alleged attempt to kill him on February 23rd, 2023. During a chat with Africa Update, Ordor, said he has been receiving medical attention and his health has not been fully restored despite huge resources spent.   Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a suspected cultist by rival cult group last night.  Police Public Relations Officer SP Grace Iringe-Koko who confirmed the killing at Ekwe/Ikwerre road Mile 3 Diobu, said it was as a result of cult rivalry . SP Iringe-Koko stated that the Commissioner of Police,Effiong Okon has mandated tactical teams and other officers to fish out the Perpetrators and sponsors of the cult clashed while investigation is ongoing.

  The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 21 and Monday, April 24, 2023, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid el-Fitr celebration. Gun Battle: Residents Scamper For Safety In PortHarcourt As Cult Groups Clash

Police Officers Sustain Injuries As Gunmen Shoot One Dead, Kidnap Their Target In Rivers

  Two Police Officers sustained different degrees of injuries when chasing suspected Kidnappers who abducted a yet to be identified man around Obiri Ikwerre axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State . Barely A Week, Another Fire Incident Destroy Properties Worth Millions of Naira In Rivers State

Fire raised down property worth millions of Naira at Ojoto market located at Ojoto round about Mile 2 Diobu Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State last night. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained as the market had already shut down for the day. Speaking on the incident, Chairman of the market, Mr. Arinze Akupue in an interview with our Correspondent said he was in his house at bout few minutes to 10pm when security personnel in the market called him that there is flame coming out of the market. Mr Akupue said he called some people around the market to assist to quench the fire while he drove to State Fire Service. On getting to State Fire Service, he was advised to seek help from the Federal Fire Service as they in the State Fire Service cannot assist him. Gunmen Kill Three, Kidnapped Two In Rivers State

 Gunmen suspected to be cultists yesterday invaded Ubeta community in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State and killed three persons . The killing comes  barely seventy two hours after two Shop owners,Chimezie Nagbo and one other was kidnapped in the community on Monday. Paramount Ruler of Ubeta community Chief Million Jonathan,  in an interview with our Correspondent confirmed the incidents. Police Spokesperson, CSP Adejobi Reacts To Trending Video Of Officer Assaulting Man In Port Harcourt

  The Spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has reacted to the video of a police officer flogging a man in Port Harcourt.  In the video that has gone viral, an officer could be seen flogging the man with a cane, while his colleague faced the man's female companion . Adejobi said it is unethical for a police officer to flog someone. He added that irrespective of what the man must have done, he did not deserve to be beaten ‘’like a baby.'' ‘’Quite unfortunate. Library, Archive, Museum To Preserve Cultural Heritage Opens In Rivers State

  Governor Nyesom Wike has commended the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers for setting up library, archive and museum to preserve the cumulative cultural heritage of people of the State for future generations. Speaking at the inauguration of the newly set up library, archive and museum situated at the traditional rulers council secretariat in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Governor Wike said the facility will help ensure that cultural heritage of the various ethnic nationalities in the State would not be lost to future generations. Property Worth Millions Destroyed In Fire Inferno In PortHarcourt

  Over twenty families of 9 Awkwuzu street Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt has been displaced and rendered homeless following fire that gutted the building. A resident of the compound who gave  her name as Esther told our Correspondent that the fire was said to have started from the room of a woman who left her cooking  gas on and went out to the hospital. Esther said available information suggest that the gas which regulator was bad exploded and the fire spread to other apartments .  She revealed that the incident happened so fast that the occupants of the compound  were not able to bring out tangible property from the building  . Rivers State Government Hands Over Two Schools To Nigerian Navy .....as Nigerian Navy pledges continuous fight against criminal elements in the state.

  Rivers State government has handed over two of its schools, Model Secondary School Egberu in Oyigbo Local Government Area  and Ambassador Nne Furu Kurugbo Model Secondary school,  Ebube-Eleme, in Eleme Local Government Area to the Nigerian Navy. Performing the handing over of the schools in his office in PortHarcourt, the State Commissioner for Education Professor Chinedu Mmom said the presence of the Nigerian Navy in these locations will  strengthen the security of the host communities and also strengthen the relationship between the state government and the Nigerian Navy. More Wahala In Rivers State As Twenty Families Rendered Homeless

 At least twenty families have been rendered homeless by fire that engulfed a building at number nine  Awkwuzu Street, Mile 1 Diobu in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State.
