Court Bars INEC From Providing Voter's Register Ahead Of Rivers Election

  By; Awajis Josiah-Chijindu  A Federal High Court in Abuja has barred the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC; from providing the voters’ register to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC; ahead of the October 5, 2024 local government election.   The ruling was issued by Justice Peter Lifu, following a lawsuit filed by the All Progressives Congress.   The court also prohibited the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State Services from offering security support for the upcoming election.   Justice Lifu ruled that RSIEC’s decision to schedule the election was unlawful, as it did not adhere to the necessary legal requirements, including the 90-days notice mandated by law.

A Sign Of Hope: Trucks Load Petroleum Products At Dangote Refinery

By: Awajis Josiah-Chijindu  A convoy of trucks at the Dangote Refinery have begun lifting Petroleum products today. The trucks, belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL; were seen in videos posted on the X handle of the Dangote Group. The loading of the Dangote petrol indicates an end to the month-long debate over the quality and sale of the product.   However, one major issue that remains unresolved is the price at which the NNPCL would sell the product to oil marketers and the public. Meanwhile, the national oil firm, had earlier in a tweet, noted that hundreds of trucks would be deployed to the refinery today for Petrol loading. IYC Election: Police Confirms Shooting At Abuloma Area Of Port Harcourt

By: Awajis Josiah-Chijindu  The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a senseless and sporadic shooting at Abuloma area in the Port-Harcourt City Local Government of the State where the  Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Central Zone were conducting their elections. In a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu upon notification of the incident  swiftly despatched Tactical Teams to the scene , but before the arrival of the Police, the perpetrators have run into their hide out. SP Iringe-Koko speaking further noted that the Commissioner of Police has given  marching orders to track down the perpetrators and bring them to face the full wrath of the law. Meanwhile, the Command advised all law abiding citizens to go about their lawful businesses and report any suspicious movement to the Police, as normalcy has returned to the area.

Rivers State Police Command Arrest Fake Police Officer

The State Commissioner for Power, Mr. Solomon Abel Eke, who made the donation  yesterday to the Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Mr. Ilamu Arugu, thanked Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the approval and release of the transformer, adding that it would go a long way in solving the power problem at the centre. While speaking to Newsmen at the Command's headquarters in Port Harcourt, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko stated that the three suspects, Thaddeus  Ogu, Chinagorom Eze, Favour Yusuf and two others pushed out their victim from the car at Garrison axis of Port Harcourt by 9pm on September 4, 2024. According to the Police Spokesperson Thaddeus Ogu wanted to evade arrest by opening fire on the police after a hot chase but was overpowered at Eleme junction while the two other suspects escaped. Rivers State Government Strengthens Support for Vulnerable Population

  By Martha Igbiks  The Rivers State Government is intensifying  efforts at  enhancing the welfare of vulnerable groups across the State, with significant steps being taken to improve the conditions of various care facilities.  This was highlighted during a recent visit by the State Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Mr Arugu Ilamu, to key institutions in the State including the Rehabilitation Centre Iriebi, Remand Home, Children Home, and Safe Home in Borikiri, Port Harcourt. Mr Ilamu while on tour of the facilities, applauded Governor Siminalayi Fubara for providing the necessary support to cater for the State's most vulnerable residents.  He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by these institutions, pledging  government's commitment to tackling pending issues.
