#Police Brutality: Family of a Commercial Driver Allegedly Murder by Police Officer Demands One Hundred Million Naira as Compensation

 Rivers State Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Alleged Acts of Violence , Torture, Brutality, Murder and Violation of Fundamental Rights of Citizens Committed by Officers and Men of the Nigerian Police Force has struck out two petitions. The panel struck out the petition of David  Paul and ThankGod Nwabeke ,when their attention were drawn to the fact that judgment had already been given on the matter but it had challenges of enforcement . Our Correspondent reports that the Chairman of the Panel, Justice Chukwuneye Uriri told the petitioners that it was not in the Jurisdiction of the panel to enforce judgment and thereby struck out the matter. Also, the panel adjourned till Wednesday this week to continue in a matter brought by the family of Bright  Chinatu-Mark who was allegedly killed by a police officer at Rumuokoro in 2018. The Panel gave the adjournment after Counsel representing the Police, N.N Nweke requested that the Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni 

Police Confirm Attack on Gov.Wike Father's Church , Three Persons Arrested in Connection

Three suspects who allegedly detonated dynamite at Governor Wike   Father's Church, Christian Universal Church International at  Azikiwe Street Mile 2 Diobu in PortHarcourt City Local Government Area last night have been arrested by Azikiwe local Vigilante group and handed over to the Police.  Assistant Chief Security Officer of the group ,Mr.Collins Johnbull  in an interview with our correspondent said last night they saw five men entering the church at about 9pm but thought they  were church members.  Mr. Johnbull explained that after some minutes they heard a loud sound suspected to be dynamite and they saw the hoodlums running out with guns. Another Security personnel Uche Brown said one of their  members was rushed to the hospital as a result of the injury he sustained when going after the hoodlums. #Police Brutality: Families of Victims Testify before Judicial Commission of Inquiry Sitting in PortHarcourt

  Mr. Bright Nwabueze  from Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State told members of the state Judicial Commission of Inquiry Investigating the alleged acts of violence, torture, murder and violation of fundamental Rights of Citizens by Officers and Men of the Nigerian Police that he was brutally wounded by operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS;. Mr. Nwabueze, explained to the panel that SARS operatives collected his three hundred and fifty thousand naira and his mobile phone that was in his possession around Mile one Motor Park in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of the state. The victim said he could not identified any of the men, saying the  SARS operatives were not having a name tag making it difficult to identify them. Another petitioner identified as Tamunodepriye Akalobo told the panel how a stray bullet from SARS operatives killed his fourteen years old son during the#EndSARS protest in Rivers State. Day Old Baby Boy Found Dead at a Dump Site in Diobu PortHarcourt

The Nigeria Police has evacuated corpse of a day old baby boy dumped at a waste bin at the median of Ikwerre road opposite Egede street Mile 2 Diobu in PortHarcourt City Local Government Area tonight . Some residents Kelechi Modesty and Chinemere Nwachukwu who spoke to our correspondent said they discovered the baby when they came to dispose their waste .  The residents raised alarm which  attracted large crowd to the scene resulting to heavy traffic in the area. Respondents condemned  action of the unknown mother describing it as evil and barbaric.  Our correspondent also report that there were sachet of injection close to the dead baby.  Meanwhile, Secretary Board of Trustee Centre For Basic Rights And Accountability Campaign Mr. Prince Work who was also at the scene expressed sadness on the development describing it as inhumane, evil and height of wickedness.

Police Launch Manhunt for Killers of Engineer Michael Ebirien-Agana from Andoni

 Rivers State Police Command says it has commence investigation into the killing of  Engineer Michael Ebirien-Agana who was murdered last weekend by unknown assassins at a bad spot on Igbo-Etche road . Police Public Relations Officer Mr. Nnamdi Omoni told our correspondent that the police is working round the clock  to bring penetrators of the heinous act to book. Mr. Omoni while noting that no arrest has been made yet , appealed to residents of the state with useful information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects to avail the command with such information.  Mr. Michael  Ebirien-Agana who is an Engineer from the Andoni Community, a native of Agana in Andoni local government area of Rivers State resides at Igbo-Etche, with his family. He was gunned down by unknown gunmen on his way home last week Friday night.

NBA to Partner Judicial Commission of Inquiry to Ensure Justice and Fairness During Sitting

 Nigerian Bar Association has charged members of the Rivers State Commission of Inquiry into the acts of violence, torture, brutality, murder and violation of fundamental Right of citizens by officers and men of Nigerian Police especially operatives of default Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS to ensure justice and fairness during the process. Chairman Port Harcourt branch of the Association , Mr.Prince  Nyekwere who spoke during the inaugural sitting of the panel expressed confidence on the caliber of persons involved in the Commission. Mr.Nyekwere said although the Port Harcourt branch of NBA has promised Pro-bono to those who may not have lawyers in the hearing, also assured their commitment to ensure that the aim of the panel is achieved. The chairman stressed that the result of the #EndSARS protest was not only for police brutality but also bad governance which he said need to be worked on to forestall further protest by Nigerian youths.

 Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Alleged Acts of Violence , Torture, Brutality , murder and Violation of Fundamental Rights of Citizens Committed by Officers Men and Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force in Rivers State has held it's inaugural sitting in Port Harcourt. Chairman of the Panel, Justice Chukwuneye  Uriri in his inaugural speech said the Commission received a total of one hundred and seventy-one Memorandum from petitioners. Justice Uriri said their terms of reference include to ascertain and identify the acts of violence, torture, brutality, murder and violation of fundamental Right of citizens by officers and men of Nigerian Police especially operatives of default Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS. Justice Will be Served ...Rivers CP Assures Family of Late Security Guard Allegedly Shot by Police Officer

  Rivers State Commissioner of Police Mr. Joseph Mukan  said the erring officer who allegedly shot Mr. Gospel Gbaraka a security guard attached to a company in PortHarcourt has been detained and undergoing internal Disciplinary Procedures.  The commissioner made this known when the family of the deceased paid him a visit  at his office in PortHarcourt.  Mr. Mukan  assured family of late Gospel Gbaraka  that justice will be served in the matter. Mr. Mukan while consoling  family of the deceased ,urged them to remain resolute saying that the police will ensure justice in the matter.  Earlier, father of the deceased Mr. Innocent Gbaraka said he need justice  for his late son as he was the only hope of survival. Security Guard Allegedly Shot Dead by Police Officer in PortHarcourt, Father of the Deceased Threaten to Commit Suicide

 The father of a security guard who was allegedly shot dead by a marine police officer at Abonnema Wharf, port Harcourt. Mr Gospel Gbaraka has threatened to commit  suicide if the  killer of his son is not brought to book.   Mr. Innocent Gbaraka  said  his late son, Gospel was his only   hope of survival lamenting that all efforts he made to train him in higher institution of learning had become a waste. Mr. Gbaraka and the elder brother of the deceased, Mr. Emmanuel Gbaraka called  on the Police Authority to ensure justice on the matter.  Meanwhile a Right Advocacy Group  Centre For  Basic Rights Protection  And Accountability  Campaign has called for an immediate and unbiased investigation into the incident to unravel the circumstance that led to the shooting to death of Gospel Gbaraka. Secretary, Board of Trustees of the group, Mr. Prince Wiro also called on the Police Authority to ensure the investigation is concluded in record time and anybody found culpable  made to face the law.

Unknown Gunmen Kills An Engineer from Andoni

  Unknown Gunmen has killed a renowned Engineer from Andoni  .  Mr .Michael  Ebirien-Agana  who is an Engineer from the Andoni Community, a native of Agana in Andoni local government area of Rivers State resides at Igbo-Etche, with his family. He was gunned down by unknown gunmen on his way home Friday night. A family member who would not want his name mentioned told our correspondent that he was shot at the bad spot along Igbo-Etche road. He noted that Mr. Ebirien-Agana was rush to military hospital by sympathisers and confirm dead on arrival by a doctor in the hospital. The family member added that the  corpse was deposited in a mortuary while the matter has been reported to the Police for investigation.

Unknown Gunmen Kills One Person in Rivers Community

 Report says unknown gunmen suspected to be cultists invaded Duburo community in Khana Local Government area of Rivers State yesterday and killed a youth of the community.  Chairman Community Development Committee Mr.Vincent Gbosi who confirmed the incident to our correspondent in a telephone interview called on relevant security agencies to investigate the repeated killing of youth in his community by gunmen.  Mr. Gbosi recalled that on 3rd of June  gunmen invaded the community and killed two persons.  Mr. Gbosi who identified the deceased  as Ledum Nwiekina urged the Police and sister security agencies to provide adequate security in the area.   Our correspondent gathered that the killings may not be unconnected to supremacy battle between suspected Iceland and Deygbam cult members who also target relatives of their rivals.

Gov. Wike Orders the Reopening of Ikokwu Spare Parts Market

 Rivers State Governor Barrister Nyesom  Wike,has approved the re-opening of Ikokwu spare parts Market. The market which fall among areas that was included in a curfew as a result of the ENDSARs protest which was hijacked by hoodlums however was directed by the governor not to be reopened when the curfew was called off.  Rivers State government in a statement by the commissioner for Information and Communications Mr. Paulinus Nsirim  ordered that the market be reopened immediately with security agencies stationed in the area  until further notice.

High Court Commence Hearing on Alleged Murder of Chima Ikwunado and Torture of Ikokwu four by Ex-officers

  A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt,Rivers State has commenced hearing  on the case of alleged murder of Chima Ikwunado and torture of four others by four dismissed officers of Eagle Crack unit of the state police command. One of the four victims of the alleged torture, Ifeanyichukwu Onyekwere told the court that the accused officers first shot sporadically to threaten them before the torture. According to our correspondent Mr. Onyekwere said he and late Chima Ikwunado were brought out from the cell on the second day of their detention and tortured from 5am to 6pm with different types of weapons used on them as they were hung on a two by two hard wood. He explained that after the torture on the 21st day of December, 2019, Chima Ikwunado became seriously ill and died on his arms while carrying him inside the E-Crack cell before the Operatives brought in a white Helux vehicle to take his remains away. Police Committee on #Endsars Losses Assessment Storms Rivers State

  The Police Committee on ENDSARs Losses Assessment has visited Rivers State Police command to ascertain the level of damaged done on some police stations in the state during the #Endsars protest allegedly hijacked by members of the indigenous people of Biafra,IPOB. Vice chairman of the committee ,Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Patrick Atayero while speaking with officers of the command said the team will report back it's findings to the Inspector General of police Mr .   Report says unknown gunmen shot and killed a member of Khana Security Advisory Committee,KHASPAC ;  . Court Adjourn Case of Murder and Attempt Murder of Woman Dumped in Septic Tank till Next week

    A magistrate court  in Port Harcourt has adjourned a suit instituted by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police against Chinedu Nwachukwu , Mary Ishmael and Benita Patrick to  10 th  November 2020  .   The suspects are accused of murder, attempted murder and child trafficking.   When the case was mentioned, the Prosecution Counsel Adiari Idafi said the defendants were absent in court.   The prime suspect, Chinedu Nwachukwu was alleged to have killed Queen Izuwa at Omuodukwu farm road, Igwuruta and sold her new born baby for two hundred and fifty thousand naira to the 2nd suspect ,Mary Ishmael who in turn sold the baby for five hundred thousand naira to Rosemary Ikenwe , who is at currently at large.   Chinedu Nwachukwu was also alleged to have abducted a five month old baby after hitting the mother and dumping her body into a septic tank, luck however ran out of him when he was arrested by the police at Omerelu ,Ikwerre local government area of the state.   Speaking with our corres

Rivers State Government Relaxes Curfew impose on Oyigbo

Rivers State Security Council has relaxed the 24 hour curfew imposed on the entire Oyigbo Local Government Area of the State following the killing of ten security operatives by members of proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB). The Rivers State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim, during a briefing at the Government House, Port Harcourt today, said the curfew will now take effect from 7pm to 6am beginning from Wednesday. “You will recall that following the killing of six soldiers and four policemen, and the destruction of Court buildings by members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Rivers State Government imposed a 24 hour curfew on the entire Oyigbo Local Government Area on October 21, 2020. “The State Security Council met today and reviewed the situation in Oyigbo and has therefore decided to review the curfew. From tomorrow, Wednesday November 4, 2020, the curfew will now be from 7pm to 6am until further notice” he said. Nsirim explained
