Unknown Gunmen Kills One Soldier, Two Others Injured In Rivers

  Unknown gunmen in the early hours of today attacked military troops in Rivers State killing one  soldier  and two others injured . The incident  happened  at the boundary bridge between   Kalabari region and Emohua Local Government Area of the state. Meanwhile, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations Officer Six Division, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Ekeocha was yet to react on the incident as of the time of filing this report.

Teenagers Caught Burning Human Head In Ogun

  Three Teenagers ages 17,19 and 20 were caught in Oke-Aregb  Abeokuta Ogun State burning fresh female human head in a local pot for ritual purposes. The victim  Rofiat, a girlfriend to one of the perpetrators was said to be lured  into their house, where her neck was broken and head cut off with a machete . While the victim's lifeless blood was left in their room they proceeded to an uncompleted building to burn the head. A local Vigilante who perceived the smell coming from the uncompleted building, said when he got to where the smell was coming from, he saw that they were roasting a human head. Report says the fourth teenager who  allegedly is the boyfriend of the victim is on the run.

Emohua Mortuary Not Kidnapped Victims Den... Rivers Police

   Rivers State Police Command says it's attention has been drawn to a viral video of an illegal mortuary where kidnappers deposit  the bodies of kidnapped victims who died in their custody. A statement by the acting Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Grace Iringe-Koko,  a Preliminary investigation revealed that the mortuary actually exists in the premises of the General Hospital Elele Alimini, owned by the State Government, which  had been abandoned for over ten years and staff laid off. In the statement, Mrs Iringe-Koko explained that some mortuary attendants however decided to stay back to attend to the corpses that were in the morgue to avoid an outbreak of disease.. The statement further noted that one Mr. Okachi Wali met at the premises was a casual staff of the mortuary who is still rendering his services. Rivers State Commissioner Of Police Decorates 3 Officers

Undergraduate Student Allegedly Extorted,Brutalized By Men Of Anti-Cultism Police Unit In Rivers Narrates Ordeal

  A three hundred level student of Rivers State University, faculty of Social Sciences, Eke Nwachukwu has alleged he was brutalized and fifty thousand naira extorted from him by some personnel of the Anti-cultism unit. Mr Nwachukwu who narrated his ordeal to Journalists said on his way home last week Thursday, some persons on Wine coloured Sienna vehicle on black clothes intercepted the car that took him on a 'drop' at Rumuola and asked him to come down from the vehicle, which he did. He said after the persons who turned out to be officials of Police Anti-Cultism unit searched him,they did not find anything incriminating ordered him to enter their vehicle. "At that point, I insisted on knowing what my offence was and one of the officers gave me a slap while others started hitting him with some objects and later tied my hands and threw me into their vehicle as I continued to scream which attracted large number of  persons to the scene.'' Detectives Visit Lady Who Was Attack With Burning Stove By A Police Officer In PortHarcourt

  Detectives from State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department ,SCIID; Port Harcourt has visited the woman whom a Police Officer, Eze Agbelu allegedly attacked with a burning stove last week which caused  severe burn on her body. The woman, Miss Jane Amos who alleged that she had earlier turned down love advances of the Police officer before the incident,told our correspondent that the detectives who came on investigation took her statement at the hospital where she still receiving medical attention . Police Arrest Fleeing Male Lover Of Woman Found Dead By Neighbours In Diobu

    The Police has arrested a man  identified as Kelechi who fled days before  neighbours in the compound at Woke street off Cherubim road, Mile  3 Diobu, Port Harcourt discovered the decomposing  body of his female lover, Ifeoma UzoIgwe popularly called Oyibo in his room on 2nd week of December, 2021.   The caretaker of the compound, Chinonye Anurum in an interview with our correspondent said he was called by Nkpolu Police Division, Mile 3 Diobu last week and was taken to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, where he wrote another statement after  the first statement in December.   Mr Anurum explained that the suspect was arrested by the Police with the help of the suspect's immediate family who trailed him to his hideout almost one month after the incident.    Meanwhile, Centre For Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has commended the role played by members of the immediate family of the suspect which led to his arrest.   A lawyer with the Hum

Remains Of 5 Year Old Hanifa Recovered From A Shallow Grave As Kano State Government Ordered Close Down Of School

  Kano State Government has ordered the immediate closure of a private school, Noble Kids Academy, in Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state, where abductors of a pupil, Hanifa Abubakar, were said to have killed and buried her remains.  Hanifa Abubakar  Five-year-old was abducted  last year December by her school teacher Abdulmalik Mohammed Tanko and others. The abductors demanded  six million naira but went ahead to kill her after receiving part of the payment.   The Rivers State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalist NUJ, has elected a new 7 man State executives led by Mr Job Stanley-Job to pilot affairs of the Union for the next three years. Mr Stanley-Job defeated his closest opponent Mr. Paul Bazia by one hundred and fifty votes to one hundred and forty. Police Denies Blocking Illegal Oil Refinery From Destruction

  Rivers State Police Command has debunked the news making rounds that the Police prevented the Executive Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area, Mr. George Ariolu from destroying an illegal refinery used by oil thieves.   The Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement indicates that the Chairman went to petroleum depot at Ogbogoro  with a detachment of police men led by Acp Akika Solomon on Saturday last week where they met about twenty armed  personnel of  Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps who violently opposed the inspection of the depot.   It alleged that two of the NSCDC officials corked their rifles against the police but were eventually disarmed and arrested before the chairman gained access into the premises.   The commissioner of Police, Rivers state command, Mr. Eboka Friday, while  calling on the public to disregard the report, urged media practitioners to verify their facts before publication.   He also reiterated the command’

Dead Bird Causes Panic At Rivers State Judiciary Complex

 Dead bird suspected to have been used for fetish purpose was seen at the Rivers State Judiciary Complex. The situation which caused panic among Workers and litigants distorted activities at the area as those who came early to the complex were seen in cluster discussing the incident. Speaking to Newsmen,Acting Chief Registrar Rivers State High Court Mr.David  Ihua-Maduenyi said it is the second time such substance had been dropped in the premises.  He assured litigants and workers that the judiciary will beef up security in and around the premises. Rivers NAWOJ Visit Children Home As Part Of Activities To Mark 2022

Police Set Up Panel To Investigate Rumuji DPO Allegedly Involved In Illegal Oil Bunkering

  The  Rivers State Police  Command has set up panel to investigate Rumuji Divisional Police Officer, DPO;  who was allegedly accused of  involvement in illegal bunkering activities.  Acting Police Public Relations Officer Mrs.Grace  Iringe-Koko in a statement said the accused officer has been redeployed and a panel headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, inaugurated to investigate the matter. Mrs.Iringe-Koko stated that the outcome of the investigation will be made public and the officer punished appropriately if found wanton . Tragedy In Rivers Community As Father,Son Found Dead In Septic Tank

 Reports say two persons a father and his son were found dead in a septic tank at Rumuekini Obio Akpor local government area of Rivers State. We gathered that the father and his son  were working at a site in the area when the unfortunate incident happened. According to the source, the father was the first to go into the tank to work but did not make it out at the time he was expected to come out  . The son out of curiosity of what might have befallen his father decided to go into the tank and met his own death. Source also revealed that they choked to death due to the kerosine  poured into the septic tank. We also gathered that other workers alarmed by their disappearance, checked in the tank and brought out their corpses.

RS Governor Charge LGA Chairmen To Identify Illegal Oil Refineries In Their Localities Within 48 Hours ...... Order Transfer Of Ibaa Community DPO And State Commander NSCDC

  Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has directed Chairmen of the Twenty-Three Local Government Areas to identify all illegal oil refineries in their domain and those engaging in the illicit business within Forty-Eight hours.  Governor Wike gave the directives at a meeting with Heads of Security Agencies and Local Government Chairmen in the state, announcing a reward of two million naira for any identified spot of the illegal oil refinery.  The Governor who noted the seriousness the state government attaches on the fight against illegal oil bunkering which he observed is bigger than the war against Boko Haram, accused the Council Chairmen of being part of the business, warning them to be battle ready with the state government, failure to comply with the directive.  Reminding the Council Chairmen that leadership comes with challenges and the need for them to be ready to take responsibilities that comes with their position, the Governor however commended the Chairmen of Emouha and Ikwerr

NUJ Rivers Council Election Holds Tomorrow

 The rescheduled 7th Triennial Conference of the Nigeria Union of Journalists ,NUJ; Rivers State Council, holds tomorrow, Thursday, January 13, 2022. The Conference is expected to elect officers to pilot the affairs of the council for the next three years. A statement jointly signed by the chairman of the credentials committee, Victor Tew and secretary, Comrade Ogboka  Umeda said the conference will hold at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt at 9am prompt. The statement advised delegates  to arrive the venue of the conference promptly for accreditation. The statement further advised delegates to conduct themselves orderly as all the necessary mechinaries have been put in place to ensure a free, fair, credible and orderly poll.  The Credentials Committee warns that it will not condone any disorderly behaviour from any quarters. Rivers Police Parades 18 Suspected Illegal Oil Refiners

 The Rivers State Police Command has arrested and paraded eighteen suspected oil bunkerers who specialize in illegal refining of crude oil products. The State Commissioner of Police Mr.Eboka Friday while briefing journalists at the police headquarters in PortHarcourt said the suspects were arrested at different locations in the state. Mr. Friday stated that following the marching order given by the governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike, the command swung into action and set up a taskforce committee to fish out suspected oil bunkerers. The Police Boss said  the health implications caused by the effect of soot was enormous . CP Eboka said officers of the command also impounded two tankers and two large trucks used for illegal storage and transportation of crude oil. PortHarcourt Polytechnic Suspend A Lecturer Over Sexual Harassment

 PortHarcourt Polytechnic Rumuola has suspended a lecturer Mr. Zoe Solomon for three months. Registrar of the institution Mr.Chris Nwoke in a statement said the school management has set up investigative panel to investigate the alleged sexual harassment of a female student miss Blessing Audu whom the lecturer arrested on allegation of diversion of  two hundred and fifty thousand naira. Miss Audu had denied diverting money belonging to the lecturer while insisting that she was arrested because she rejected his love advances and Marriage proposal. The statement also said the committee is to submit it's report in one Month time. Andoni Council Boss Reiterates Commitment To Showcase Rich Culture Of The People

 Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State Mr. Erastus Awortu has reiterated his commitment to continually showcase the rich culture of the people.  Mr. Awortu made this known at the Andoni beach festival in Ikuru town as part of activities to mark the festive season.
