Rivers State Civil Service Vacancies: A Refutal

  The attention of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission has been drawn to a false and misleading information circulating in various media channels and online including social media platforms purportedly inviting those who applied for civil service jobs to report for documents verification.  The  Rivers State Civil Service Commission hereby dissociates itself from the  said publication and also caution all applicants to discountenance the publication as the handiwork of scammers.  The commission did not publish nor authorize the publication under reference. The mischief makers who are circulating the false information are hereby warned to desist forthwith. Tragedy As Rivers Police Mourns Ex-Public Relations Officer

  Rivers State Police Command has announced the demise of SP Nnamdi Omoni who death occured yesterday at Rivers State Teaching Hospital in PortHarcourt. Police Public Relations Officer SP Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement said the late Omoni who hailed from Ndele community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force    on the 1st of November 1989 and served in various capacities including Rivers State Command Police Public Relations Officer for many years. Until his death the late Police Officer was the Divisional Police Officer of  Elimgbu Police Division. According to the statement, the Command  wishes to convey her heartfelt condolences to the Omoni’s family, friends, and all the good people of Rivers state. She added that further development will be communicated in due course, after consultations with the family members. Meanwhile, condolence registers have been opened at the division and his family home. 

Andoni Section Of Unity Road To Be Completed In Seven Months.....Wike

  Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has warned that the Rivers State government will no longer condone the disruption of construction work on the Andoni section of the  Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity Road project. The governor said his administration, which has already completed the Opobo section of the multibillion Naira road,  is determined to complete the Andoni section before the end of his tenure in May, 2023. Governor Wike,  who stated this during a meeting with Andoni stakeholders at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Thursday, regretted that construction of the Andoni section of the road had lingered for so long not because of  funding, but because the people  of the area have failed to see the project as theirs. Man Machetes Lawfully Wedded Wife For Side Chick

  A man  identified as Chima and his female friend  have allegedly used machete to inflict injuries on his wife at Omerelu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State . The ugly incident happened when the wife,Wakaego Chima queried the husband why he brought his female friend home. An elder brother of the victim, Anayo Warisi , in an interview with our Correspondent said  his sister's husband brought  his lover to the house and the wife asked why he would bring her home,the man and his lover beat the wife , while the husband allegedly used a machete to inflict serious injuries on her. "My elder sister and brother took her to hospital at Elele,she was rejected.The hospital said the wound is much and they took her to UPTH. "We want the husband arrested because is a case of attempted murder". Gunmen Including A Woman Kidnaps Staff Of PortHarcourt Water Cooperation

  Report says about four gunmen including a woman at about 2:30pm today kidnapped a man said to be a staff of company working at PortHarcourt water Cooperation Office at Udi Street Mile 1 Diobu. Eyewitness said the gunmen who came out of their vehicle sighted  the man coming out from a restaurant at the street and immediately dragged him into their vehicle and zoomed off. When our correspondent visited the place ,some members of Diobu Vigilante Service were seen at the scene,we also gathered that the Divisional Police Officer of Mile 1 Police Division had visited the scene with his men earlier. When contacted the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Grace Iringe Koko confirmed the incident and added that Investigation is ongoing.

Governor Wike Tasks Political Office Holders On Accountability

  Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike says politics is about accountability to the people. Governor Wike who stated this at the flag-off of construction of Azikiwe- Ilaobuchi road in Port Harcourt Local Government Area said his administration has demonstrated good governance by fulfilling the promises made to Rivers people particularly in the area of infrastructure. Abua Odual PHC Debunks Deaths Of 20 Children From Measles

  Abua/ Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State says contrary to News making the rounds about deaths of children following measles outbreak, no life was lost in the area.   The Head of Primary Healthcare Department, Abua/ Odual Local Government Area, Dr Henry Iboh who spoke to our Correspondent, said a team of medical experts were in the communities two days ago and that no life was lost.   He urged bearers of malicious rumours to always verify their stories before rushing to the media.     Dr Iboh  however noted that there was mild outbreak of measles in the area and parents to make their children available for immunization.   The Head Primary Healthcare Department urged parents to always go to the Health Centres to immunize their children under the age of five against childhood killer diseases.    

An Armed Robbery Suspect Who Locked Out Home Owner Beaten To Stupor

  A life-less body of Armed Robbery suspect was seen lying around Odanawere street off Mgbuoba/NTA road. Narrating the story of what led to the death of the suspected robber, a resident of the area expressed shock on how the Criminal gained access to his house before he was caught. Another inhabitant explained that the said bandit who escaped from Police net after attempting robbing a man of his car with his gang jumped into one of the houses in the area as he was been chased by security operatives. He further said, they contacted the Police who came and refused to take the suspect with them rather instructed that they should take him to the hospital for treatment before bringing him to the Police Station. Group Demands Whereabouts Of Suspects Arrested For Procurement Of Teenagers For Prostitution

  Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has tasked the Rivers State Police command to disclose the status of the matter involving rescue of underaged girls coerced into prostitution in Port Harcourt.   The Group is also asking for disclosure of the arrested suspects who coordinated the girls in the brothel situated in Azikiwe Street, Diobu.   Chairman of the group in the state Mr. IK Alexander said the group has heard from the Commander of NAPTIP; the response from the Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday about the matter charged to court.   However, Mr. Alexander said its members were at the court in Loco on Monday and yesterday but did not hear anything about the case calling on the Police to make known the particular court the case was filed.   The group demanded to Know the state of the underaged girls if they were handed over to the Rivers State Government or reunited with their families.   While calling on the State Government to take adequate steps in pa

NAPTIP Rivers State Denies Custody Of Underaged Girls Used For Prostitution

  National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP; in Rivers State has denied insinuations that the underaged girls used for prostitution at a brothel in Mile 2 Diobu Port Harcourt City Local Government Area who were rescued last Saturday were handed over to NAPTIP.   Head of NAPTIP Rivers State Command, Nwamaka Ikediashi in an interview with our Correspondent said the Police never handed over anyone to the Agency.     Ikediashi stated that they heard of the arrest but no victim or suspect was handed over to the Agency.     The NAPTIP Head revealed that she visited the Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday over the matter and the Commissioner told her that it was likely the matter has been charged to court.   The Police in Rivers State had rescued some underaged girls from a brothel in Port Harcourt who were allegedly used for prostitution.  

Governor Wike Dashes 2 Billion Naira To Ogunabali Community

    Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike says the state has experienced infrastructural evolution since he took office in 2015.  Governor Wike who stated this during the inauguration of dualized Ogunabali road in Port Harcourt Local Government Area explained that his drive to continue to embark on more projects even as the administration is coming to an end is because of his passion and commitment to Rivers people.   The Governor promised that he will continue to use the mandate given to him for the interest of Rivers State.     Commenting on the road, Governor Wike donated the sum of two billion naira to Ogunabali community for their cooperation during the periods of the projects.  He also donated one billion naira for women empowerment and lifted the ban on youth association and activities in the community.   Inaugurating the project, Former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko commended Governor Wike for providing quality infrastructure for the people.     Giving the project

Ondo State Governor Confirms Arrest Of 5 Suspects Involved In Owo Church Attack

  The  Governor of Ondo State Mr.Rotimi Akeredolu, has confirmed the arrest of five suspected attackers of St Francis Catholic Church in the Owo area of the state. The  confirmation comes shortly after the Chief of Defence Staff ,CDS; General Lucky Irabor made the announcement in Abuja. St. Francis Catholic  church Owo was attacked on Sunday, June 5th while worshippers were observing mass. The incident left at least 40 people killed and several others injured. Two months after the massacre, Mr.Akeredolu revealed that the owner of the house where the attackers stayed before the June 5th attack in Owo has also been arrested. Police Rescue Underaged Girls Use As Sex Workers In PortHarcourt

  Rivers State Police Command has rescued some underaged girls allegedly forced  into prostitution. Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police command , DSP Grace Iringe Koko  confirmed the arrest of some suspects and rescue of the underaged girls  . Speaking on the incident,  Chairman of Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign in Rivers State,Mr. Ik Alexander called on the  Police to synergize the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons ,NAPTIP; to ensure proper prosecution of arrested suspects . President Buhari Grants Presidential Pardon To Two Former Governors

     The Nigerian Correctional Service has released The former governor of Plateau State Senator Joshua Dariye and an ex-governor of Taraba State Mr. Jolly Nyame. They were serving jail terms for corruption allegations until they were granted a presidential pardon by President Muhammadu Buhari in April. The Council of State had approved the pardon alongside 157 other convicts in April this year.The former governors were convicted by Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the Federal High Court, Abuja in 2018. Mr Dariye was convicted of stealing N1.16 billion while serving as Plateau governor from 1999 to 2007 and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. But his term was eventually reduced to 10 years by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, while his conviction was affirmed by the Supreme Court. Mr Nyame who was Taraba governor from 1999 to 2007, was convicted of stealing N1.6 billion from the state’s treasury and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. The judgment was also upheld by the Supreme Court.

Rivers State Ministry Of Education Suspends Principal GGSS Rumuokwuta

  The Principal of Government Girls Junior Secondary School, Rumuokwuta has been suspended with immediate effect.  In a statement by the Commissioner for Education Rivers State, Professor Chinedu Mmom , the commissioner said the suspension is as a result of her unsatisfactory response to the query issued her on the alleged extortion of money from students.  She was directed  to handover to the Vice Principal Administration to act as the Principal until further directive.

INEC Warns Against Fake Online Voter's Registration

  The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC; says it's attention has been drawn to an online site urging Nigerians to enroll for “VOTER CARD (PVC)” registration claiming that the Federal Government has approved individual VOTER CARD (PVC) registration online to avoid unnecessary crowd in the “NIMC” CENTERS. The Commission states that the site is not linked to the Commission and the link/portal is spurious and from  dubious source. Operatives Of Rivers State Police Command Nab 7 Suspects Terrorizing The State

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested seven notorious criminal suspects, terrorizing Port Harcourt and it's environs.   In a statement,Police Public Relations Officer DSP Grace Iringe-Koko said one Saviour Gbarale who is 24 years old and Onyedikachi Uhala who is 18 years old were arrested at Borokiri in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area by operatives of C4i Intelligence Unit of the Command.
