Covid 19...Ikwerre LGA boss vow to maintain Governor Wike's Directives

Chairman Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon.Samuel Nwanosike has vowed to maintain all the directives issued by the State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, as measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the state. Hon Nwanosike, who led the members of the Ikwerre LGA COVID-19 Sensitisation and Monitoring Team on inspections, stated that there would not be any amount of blackmail or criticism that will make him allow anyone to float the directives issued by the governor and him. The council boss monitored places like Omagwa, Elele, Omerelu and Isiokpo. While at Omerelu, the Chairman and his COVID-19 Team charged the security operatives manning the Rivers State and Imo State boundary never to allow any vehicle or someone cross into the state again. On the process, some vehicles were impounded and the passengers arrested and taken to Elele Police Station. PHED Assures of steady power supply despite partial lockdown

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc, Dr. Henry Ajagbawa has assured its customers in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers states that during the stay at home period arising from COVID-19 pandemic as directed by states' Government , power supply received from the National Grid shall be distributed accordingly. Dr. Ajagbawa gave the assurance during a strategic meeting with the management team and other stakeholders in Port Harcourt recently. He affirmed the readiness of the essential workers to fix any fault that may impede power supply to customers during the stay at home adding that adequate logistics had been put in place with a view to achieving safe and seamless service delivery. Unknown gun men shoot security guard in Rivers State

About four unknown gun men in a Toyota Camry stormed Dick Tiger Street in mile 2 Diobu Portharcourt and shot one of the Vigilante on guard ,Kelvin Dappa. Confirming the ugly incident , spokesman Diobu vigilante group Prince Amatari Bipeledei told our Correspondent that the victim who is currently in an hospital receiving treatment is in critical condition. Prince Bipeledei said the target was on him considering the recent achievement recorded by the group in the area. Prince Bipeledei who is also the secretary Diobu vigilante group stressed that the incident will not stop them from carrying out their duties of protecting lives and property of residents of Diobu.

Court confirm Otuwarikpo Regent Ekpeye Ethnic Nationality

The High Court sitting in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State has affirmed Eze Felix Otuwarikpo as the regent of Ekpeye land Justice T.S.Oji gave the declarative judgement affirming that Otuwarikpo is the Regent of Ekpeye in a case between him , Chiefs Okpara Romans and others . The court gave the ruling after lawyers to the parties adopted and argued their written briefs on an application brought before it by Otuwarikpo. Eze Otuwarikpo and some traditional rulers were locked in a legal tussle and majority traditional heads recognise him as the rightful person to occupy the office of Regent in view of his position as the Deputy President of the Eze Ekpeye Logbo In-Council. Court strike out late Chima Ikwunado case

A Federal High court sitting in Port Harcourt have struck out the two defective fundamental human rights suits filed by family of late Chima Ikwunado. The two suits which were filed by Chima’s father, Kevin Ikwunado and Wife Adaugo were struck out on the request of their lawyer, Princess Lawrence . Mrs. Lawrence while arguing her application for the withdrawal told the court that she has more facts as such needed time to amend the earlier suits brought before the court. Justice J.K. Omotosho shortly after hearing the arguments of the lawyers in the matter struck out the case but declined to dismiss it as requested by lawyers to the Police, Sokari Egop and Alibi Jonah. Diobu vigilante group apprehend notorious criminal in PortHarcourt

A security outfit Diobu vigilante group has apprehended an alleged notorious criminal Godswill Henshaw popularly known as Macpharaoh from Akwa Ibom who invaded Diobu axis of PortHarcourt with his five man gang robbing residents of Emole. Police recover weapons from criminal camps in Rivers State

No fewer than fifty camps belonging to different criminal gangs operating in different areas of Rivers State have been destroyed by the combined team of Police and other security agencies in the State. State Commissioner of Police Mr. Mustapha Dandaura who stated this while parading some of the suspects arrested during the operations, said the operation took place in Khana, Gokhana, Emuohua, and Etche Local Government Area. Some of the weapons recovered from the suspects includes: fifteen ak-47 rifles, ten pump action guns, one hundred rounds of seven point six two ammunition, four Bareta Pistol, one G3 machine gun among other dangerous weapons. Heavy presence of security men at the Ikokwu spare parts market....as dealers obey sit at home order

Spare parts dealers at the popular Ikokwu market in PortHarcourt said they are happy with the sit at home order given by the leadership of the market union to press further on the demand for the release of the autopsy result conducted on late Chima Ikwunado. Some of the traders Mr. Emeka Chinedu and Mr. Peter Chukwuemeka who spoke with our correspondent said they have to obey the order to show their seriousness in demanding for justice on the matter. However ,Mr.Okon Sunday and Christian Okoro who were earlier in the market to get spare parts for their vehicles said they were not happy with the development considering the distance they are coming from to the market. They urged the police to immediately meet up with the demands of the dealers on the said matter. Our correspondent who visited the area reports that there were heavy armed police men, with about fifteen patrol vans stationed at the Ikokwu and mile 3 junction to avoid break down of law.

Police brutality... Ikokwu spare parts dealers threaten to shut down tomorrow

Chairman Ikokwu spare parts market Mr.Anthony Iwu said the marketers will observe a sit at home tomorrow to press further on the demand for the release of the autopsy result conducted on late Chima Ikwunado an auto mechanic who was allegedly tortured to dead by men of the Eagle crack unit of the Mile one police station. Mr. Iwu lamented that the police are yet to release the autopsy result and remains of late Chima for burial despite the order given by a federal high court sitting in PortHarcourt for the release of the result to the family before the next adjourned date of hearing on the matter. The chairman appealed to the state government and relevant authorities to come to their aid and prevail on the Nigerian police to do the needful by parading the officers that tortured Chima to dead and the four others who sustained grievous injuries. Mr. Iwu said the union will not relent until justice is done on the matter.

Hoodlums burnt some houses in Ngo Andoni LGA of Rivers State

Some Houses in Ngo headquarters of Andoni Local Government Area has been burnt down by unknown gunmen in the early hours of today. Reacting to the ugly incident, Ngo youth president, Mr. Anthony Sunday while condemning the act appealed to youths of the area to eschew evil and embrace peace, as no society can develop in the midst of rancor and acrimony. Mr. Sunday called on Governor Nyesom Wike and security agencies to swing into action and fish out the hoodlums behind the evil act. Meanwhile Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer Mr. Nnamdi Omoni said he is not aware of the incident, but promised to make his findings and get back to our correspondent on the matter.

AIT staff and wife rescue from kidnapper's den in PortHarcourt

Operatives of the Special Area Police Division, Rumuokoro and the IGP Squad, last night rescued Mr. Joseph Osademe, a Staff of African Independent Television,AIT; and his wife who were abducted yesterday evening by four unknown armed men. In a swift response to the distress call, the Police Teams immediately mobilized to the scene and rescued them, where they were kept in an uncompleted building. Notorious kidnapper AKA Small witch alongside his second in command killed in Andoni LGA of Rivers State

A combine team of security operatives have killed one Ekeni-Ore-Owaji Titus Sunday a notorious kidnapper and his second in command in Andoni local government of Rivers State popularly known as Small Witch.   He was killed today following a joint operation comprising the police and the Nigerian Army which commenced in the early hours of yesterday in Asarama community, Andoni Local Government.   The notorious kidnapper on sighting the security agencies engaged them in a gun battle, but was over powered by the joint Taskforce and was killed along side his second in command.   Police public Relations Officer Rivers State Command Mr. Nnamdi Omoni who confirmed the development to our correspondent stated that the joint security operation were in Asarama community yesterday in search of the notorious kidnapper.  He recalled that the notorious kidnapper was responsible for heinous crimes in that area, including the kidnapped of three policemen last year as well as the recent exchange of gun

The Rivers State Police command has called on the general public particularly those interested in enlisting into the special constabulary of the police force that the recruitment for the exercise will start tomorrow across the twenty three local government areas of the state . Over two hundred pregnant women from Obio Akpor local government area of Rivers state have benefited from an empowerment program put together by a Non Governmental Organization ,NGO; La Cuisine Danielle in collaboration with Obio Akpor local government council. Wife of the local government chairman, Mrs.Emem Eke while thanking the founder of the NGO for the initiative admonished beneficiaries to make judicious use of the starter parts given to them.
