Ahead of next year election,  Rivers State new Commissioner of Police Okon Effiong has advised residents of the state to be of good conduct before during and after the election. CP Effiong in a maiden briefing at the Command's headquarters urged youths to desist from thuggery during election as the command will not take it lightly with any group of persons that will disturb the relatively peace enjoyed in the state. The Commissioner who informed that the command will take proactive measure in tackling insecurity enjoined criminals to turn new live or leave the state. Court Nullifies APC Primaries In Rivers State

  Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has nullified all the Primary elections conducted by the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State over unlawful exclusion of some members of the party as delegates in the primaries. One Mr George Orlu and four others had approached the court requesting that the primaries of APC in state be nullified following their alleged exclusion as delegates in the process. Justice E .A.Obile in his judgment agreed with the plaintiffs that they were wrongly excluded in the election of delegates to participate in the party primaries. Our correspondent  reports that Justice Obile therefore ruled that all those elected from the primary are nullified and should not be recognized as candidates.

Suspected Criminal Arrested By Local Security Group In PortHarcourt

  Members of Diobu Vigilance group at Mile three Diobu PortHarcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State have arrested a suspected Criminal  Godspower Friday thirty two year old in the early hours of today in possession of locally made pistol,machete and facemask. Assistant Secretary of Diobu Vigilante who is also the Chief Security Officer of Nkpolu-Oroworukwo Comrade Godstime Ihunwo,  in an interview with Journalists said the suspect who hail from Bayelsa state but resides behind St.Thomas spear parts dealer mechanic garage in Diobu was arrested by the vigilante men while on patrol along IKwerre road with a locally made pistol, Machete,two button phones and a facemask . Federal Road Safety Corps Flag Off Ember Months Campaign

  A total of 27 tow trucks,83 motor bikes,800 patrol vehicles,100 Ambulances and thousands of reflective jackets are among other safety gadgets deployed by the Federal Road Safety Corps across its commands for the ember months.   Zonal Commanding Officer zone six headquarters Assistant Corps Marshal Jonathan Owoade stated this at the flag off campaign of FRSC Rivers State sector command in Port Harcourt. Gunmen Kill Two OSPAC Members In Rivers Community

  Gunmen suspected to be cultists early hours of today shot dead two members of disbanded OSPAC near a town hall in Ompova clan in Emohua local government of Rivers State.   We gathered that the gunmen suspected to be members of Iceland cult group numbering about eight had laid ambush for the members of disbanded OSPAC along a narrow path to the town hall.   Community sources revealed that the unsuspecting members of the disbanded OSPAC were shot severally the moment they were sighted by the gunmen which resulted to their death.   A resident of the community who pleaded anonymity told our Correspondent that the shooting generated tension in the area as residents remained in-door for fear of being caught by stray bullets.   Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command SP Grace Iringe- Koko who confirmed the incident, said efforts are on to arrest the suspects.

NAWOJ Expresses Fear Over Flooding Situation In Rivers

  It is no longer  news that the  flood ravaging the state has displaced  most communities with their livelihoods and homes destroyed.  Against this backdrop, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists ,NAWOJ;Rivers State Chapter has called on Government at all levels including good spirited individuals to come to the aid of the victims. Tragedy As Container Pushes Two Vehicle Into River

  Report says a Hilux van and one Sienna fall in to Akpajo river in Eleme local government Area of Rivers State  Eyewitnesses said rescue attempts are ongoing to pull out the van and the Siena car .  The eyewitnesses explained that the trailer loaded with a 40ft container fell on top of Aleto Bridge after knocking a Toyota Sienna mini van and Toyota Hilux off the bridge into the river. They stated that four persons were feared dead with only one surviving.  The Rivers State Police Command is yet to confirm the number of casualties.

  A member of Local Vigilante group (OSPAC ) in Omoku,Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State identified as Bobo allegedly shot himself while attempting to shoot one Mr Chukwuladi Akio, a Manager of a brothel at Omoku over a commercial sex worker. Rivers State Government Withdrew Criminal Charges Against Amaechi,Tonye Cole,Five Others

  Rivers State Government has withdrew  criminal charges against the Former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi , Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Tonye Cole and five others. When the case resumed for ruling , counsel to Rivers State government informed the court of the resolve to withdraw the suit. The Defense Counsels told the court that withdrawing the suit at this point was an abuse of court process and asked the court to dismiss the criminal charges if the suit must be withdrew against the defendants . Trial Judge Justice Okobule Gbasam in his ruling instead of dismissing the charges, struck out the charges. Wike To Sign Instrument Of Cancellation Of Recognition Of Celestine Omehia As Former Governor

   Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike is to sign the instrument on cancellation of the recognition of Sir Celestine Omehia as a former governor of the State. The cancellation of the recognition is sequence to the resolution of the Rivers State House of Assembly adopted today to  derecognise Sir Celestine Omehia as a former governor of the State. Rivers State House Of Assembly Order Celestine Omehia To Return All Monetary Entitlements

  The Rivers state House of Assembly has passed a motion de-recognising Sir Celestine Omehia as a former governor of Rivers State. The House, which had in the early days of Governor Nyesom Wike resolved to recognize, Omehia as a former Governor, rescinded its earlier resolution, during plenary on Thursday, 6 October, 2022. The House also resolved that Omehia  seizes to be addressed as ‘His Excellency’ henceforth. The Rivers State House of Assembly equally resolved that Sir Omehia should refund all monetary entitlements he has so far received from the Rivers State Government as of September 2022, including the sum of 600 million in benefits and 96.5 million in pension within seven days.

Rivers APC Frowns At Rivers State University Employment List

  The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State have faulted the employment list released recently by the authority of Rivers State University, RSU; that went viral on social media with a section of the State been beneficiaries.  State Acting Publicity Secretary of the party Mr Darlington Nwauju condemned the list which he said was dominated by people from Obio Akpor local government Area . Rivers NAWOJ Calls For Protection Of Female Politicians ,Journalists

  ...Wishes Nigerians Happy 62nd Anniversary  As Nigeria celebrates 62nd anniversary, the Nigeria Association of Women  Journalists (NAWOJ), Rivers State Chapter has called on politicians and security agencies to protect  female politicians and female journalists in the state.  The Association in a statement issued to commemorate Nigeria's 62nd Independence Anniversary  noted that campaigns should be used for political parties to sell their candidates and not to harass  and intimidate others, especially female politicians.  Calling for a level  playing ground  for all candidates, the association maintained that campaigns should be issue-based, rather  than gender based and commended the recent increased participation of women in politics.
