APC Urges IGP To Stop Conduct Of Local Government Election In Rivers State

 By: Awajis Josiah-Chijindu  Th e South South National Vice chairman of the All Progressives Congress; APC; Chief Victor Giadom has urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and other security agencies to ensure strict security measures are put in place to enforce the court ruling that barred the conduct of local government areas election in Rivers State.   Chief Giadom who made the call in Port Harcourt while speaking to Newsmen, said to avoid crisis in the State, the election should be suspended and due process followed before any conduct.   The National Vice Chairman reiterated the party's stance not to take part in the election, as those participating are disobeying court order.   On his part, Caretaker Committee Chairman of APC in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and the Nigeria police Force for complying with the court ruling.   Chief Okocha enjoined Rivers people to ignore the call for election by the

PDP Calls On Governor Fubara To Suspend LGA Election

  By: Awajis Josiah-Chijindu  the people’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to suspend the planned local government areas election slated for tomorrow Saturday October 5. Chairman of the party in the State, Mr. Aaron Chukwuemeka, speaking to Newsmen in Port Harcourt said the governor being a member of PDP should obey the court ruling. Mr. Chukwuemeka enjoined citizens of the State and members of the party to defend the rule of law. The PDP chairman commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and the Nigeria Police Force for adhering strictly to the rule of law. Mr. Chukwuemeka added that any attempt to announce any result will not be accepted.

Governor Fubara Condemns Police Action At RSIEC Office

 By: Awajis Josiah-Chijindu  Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara says the Inspector General of Police should be held responsible for any breakdown of law and order during tomorrow’s Local Government Election. Addressing journalists in Government House, Governor Fubara lamented that the action of police to take over the office of the Rivers State Independent National Commission, RSIEC is a deliberate effort to create anarchy in the state. The Governor reiterated that the Local Government Election will take place as scheduled despite failure of police to provide security during the polls. Governor Fubara assured Rivers people that the State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC have put in place measures to ensure the smooth process of the election. Police To Boycott Saturday Local Government Areas Election In Rivers State

 By: Awajis Josiah-Chijindu  The Rivers State Police Command has stated that it will not take part in the local government areas election slated for tomorrow Saturday, October 5, in the light of recent court rulings. Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement, noted that following the restrained order from a Federal High Court Abuja on the 19th of July 2024, preventing the Nigeria police Force and other security agencies from providing security during the Local Government Election, the Command will not participate in the exercise. According to the statement, also on the 30th of September, 2024, the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered a judgment that again prohibited the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies from participating in the Local Government Election.
